With nearly half of American adults having high blood pressure, per national data, 2023 research was telling when it showed that limiting sodium intake can be just as helpful as taking blood pressure medication in some cases.

So for anyone wisely examining nutrition labels, a new warning could mean some customers got more out of the food maker’s salt shaker than they bargained for.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) updated an existing recall report apparently first issued on February 27. The recall is for 60,100 bags of Coyote Valley Sour Cream & Onion Chips, due to the product containing “higher sodium amount than stated on label.”

The FDA has assigned the recall a Class II label, meaning it “involves products that may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.”

The FDA confirms the products were distributed to customers in three states: Ohio, Nevada, and Texas. The product details include:

  • Coyote Valley Sour Cream & Onion Chips
  • Net Wt. 5 ounces (oz)
  • UPC 744234810775
  • Item # 8014265
  • Lot Codes and Expiration Dates:
    • 241223, 241230, 250113, 250224 241223 (Expiration Date: 10/23/25)
    • 241230 (Expiration Date: 10/30/25)
    • 250113 (Expiration Date: 11/13/25)
    • 250224 (Expiration Date: 12/24/25)
  • 60,100 total bags (3,005 total cases with 20 bags per case)

Though Uncle Rays, LLC in Montgomery City, MO, is the named recalling firm, Food Express USA in Dallas, TX, seems to be listed as the chips’ distributor—the FDA report does not further clarify Food Express USA’s role, however. The Uncle Ray’s website mentions that they offer private label packaging.
