Brace Yourself: The Stranger Things Season 5 Trailer Unleashes Vecna’s Deadliest Bloodbath Yet—Are You Ready for the Horror?

They say good things come to those who wait, but honestly, waiting over three years for Season 5 of Stranger Things? That tested my patience — and my Netflix queue! Now that the final chapter has finally dropped its trailer, it feels like Hawkins is gearing up for the showdown of a lifetime–with an army base, epic battles, and our beloved gang barely holding it together. Eleven’s grown into a full-on superhero, Demogorgons are causing more chaos than ever, and poor Will is still caught in Vecna’s sinister grip. Plus, Nancy cleaning blood off her hands before blasting with an automatic rifle? Let’s just say, things are ramping up beyond the Upside Down’s usual creepiness. Can we talk about whether anyone packed enough emotional resilience for this? Or is Hawkins about to become the ultimate war zone—minus the comfy Demogorgon-free nights? Buckle up, because this season promises to be one heck of a ride. LEARN MORE

At long last, the trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things is here. Netflix is gearing up to release the final installment in three parts this holiday season, and Part 1 looks like it kicks off with an absolute dogfight. There’s an army base set up in Hawkins now, with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) remarking that the team is “really starting to lose it, being stuck in here, no end in sight.” If he was talking directly to the Stranger Things fans who waited over three years for season 5, those days are thankfully behind us.

The rest of the trailer offers quick glimpses of a big battle to open the season. From what we can deduce so far: Eleven is a superhero now, the special effects on the Demogorgon looks amazing, and poor little Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is still trapped under Vecna’s spell. There’s also a scene of Nancy (Natalia Dyer) cleaning bloods off her hands before firing an automatic rifle—so it seems this season still has some surprises up its sleeves.

You can watch the trailer below.

What Will Happen in Stranger Things Season 5?

It’s 1987, a year after the events of Stranger Things season 4. Hawkins has an even more pronounced military presence, with a portal to the Upside Down strictly guarded. All the characters are scattered, with Max (Sadie Sink) still in a coma following her unforgettable encounter with Vecna. Meanwhile, some Hawkins citizens have mistakenly learned that Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) was involved with the disaster somehow, as his tombstone is now vandalized with BURN IN HELL in red paint.

The main characters spend part of the trailer holed up in WSQK, a rock radio station. They seem to have a plan to fight Vecna—or at least weaken him—by using the station’s broadcasting equipment. Remember that Vecna has a weakness to loud sounds and, quite famously, emotionally resonant music, as blasting Kate Bush was how Max escaped the monster. Be prepared in season 5 for another sick needle drop, even if nothing will beat Eddie’s guitar solo of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.”

(By the way: Fans have kept tabs on this Twitter/X account for WSQK. The account has spent the past year and a half posting cryptic messages, some of them fragments of conversation between the show’s characters. There is no word if this account is affiliated with the production of Stranger Things in any official way. But if it is, this kind of viral marketing makes you miss a bygone era of the Internet, doesn’t it?)

There’s simply a lot going on in the trailer: More Demogorgon monsters, gigantic explosions, blinking lights, weighted glances between characters with moist eyes, and tons of panicked faces. We also glimpse Linda Hamilton, who will play a major role as a new character named Dr. Kay. But don’t expect Dr. Kay to be all lab coats and stethoscopes and scientific jargon. (Cue: Hamilton pointing a gun.) Her quick appearances have her looking not unlike Hamilton’s badass Sarah Connor of the Terminator franchise.

Bear in mind that there is still so much context missing that it’s hard to tell what, precisely, is going on, other than our beloved characters steeling themselves for the fight of their lives. But whatever is happening, it’s enough to make the hairs on Will’s neck stand up. He’s in Vecna’s clutches at the end of the footage, with the villain declaring that he’s not done with us yet.
