Jessie Buckley Stuns the BAFTAs in a Custom Blue Chanel—Here’s Why Everyone’s Talking About Her Stunning Win!
Ever wonder if blue really is the new black when it comes to luck on the red carpet? Jessie Buckley certainly seems to think so—and who can blame her? Snagging the Best Leading Actress at the BAFTAs while rocking a show-stopping blue velvet gown, she’s proving that style and substance can coexist with a bit of custom flair. This wasn’t just any dress; it’s a head-turning adaptation from Chanel’s 2026 Métiers d’art collection, stitched with silver floral embellishments that caught everybody’s eye. It’s like she’s saying, “Here’s my secret weapon: confidence wrapped in vibrant velvet.” If you ask me, there’s something powerful about wearing your ‘lucky color’ when stepping into the spotlight, especially when you’re on a roll with the awards season. Curious about how Jessie’s fashion meets artistry moment unfolded on that London red carpet?
Jessie Buckley has done it again. Tonight at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), the Hamnet star took home the trophy for the prestigious Best Leading Actress award—and wore her lucky color for the occasion.
Arriving at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in the heart of London, Buckley walked the red carpet in a striking blue gown draped with a cowl back. Made custom by Matthieu Blazy, the Chanel dress was adapted from a look that walked the runway as part of the 2026 Métiers d’art collection last fall.
The actor’s version—crafted from the same vibrant velvet fabric—swapped the original’s long sleeves for a sleeveless silhouette and adjusted the waistline. It was finished with silver floral embellishments on each shoulder.
“This really does belong to the women past, present and future that have taught me and continue to teach me how to do it differently,” Buckley shared in her acceptance speech, addressing the crowd before turning her attention directly to her director. “Chloé Zhao, you are making history tonight as a storyteller. Thank you for your uncompromising artistry.”
This was not the first time that Buckley won big in a show-stopping blue gown. Earlier this year, the BAFTA winner earned her first Golden Globe (also for Hamnet). There, she wore a silk baby-blue look by Jonathan Anderson for Dior. Styled by Danielle Goldberg, the asymmetrical number was draped with a singular off-the-shoulder detail and paired with sparkling diamond earrings.
