The deep burgundy that has taken over the fashion world this season is definitely Princess Catherine-approved.
Kate looked absolutely regal today as she stepped out in Newtown, Wales, wearing the hue from head to toe (for the second time this year). The highlight of her ensemble was a pristine burgundy double-breasted coat with sharp shoulders and black buttons. The tailored piece had an elongated silhouette and reached down past Kate’s knees, where a pair of luxurious, tall leather boots in a more muted burgundy took the spotlight.
The Princess of Wales wore the coat over a breezy pussy-bow blouse in a rubellite jewel tone, which she paired with a matching pleated maxi skirt. The only pieces that broke the monochrome scheme were Kate’s dangly yellow gemstone earrings and the little yellow daffodils that she had pinned to her coat.
The flowers are symbolic of Wales and St. David’s Day—the feast day of the patron saint of Wales—which falls on March 1.
Today, ahead of the holiday, Kate and William visited Oriel Davies, a public contemporary art gallery in Newtown that shows local community art, supporting Welsh culture.
For the outing, William opted for a preppy look in elegant earth tones. A brown blazer was layered over a navy sweater, which in turn was layered over a dress shirt and patterned tie (with a hint of burgundy as a nod to his wife’s look)—one of William’s favorite styling tricks. Navy pants and the royal’s go-to brown suede shoes completed the outfit.
