If you’re wearing anything earlier than the Apple Watch Series 9, let me hold your hand while I say this: It’s time for an upgrade. There’s no better time than right now to swap your old smartwatch for a brand new one.

Why, you ask? The Apple Watch Series 11 has been sitting just below $300, its lowest price ever on Amazon, for quite some time. The price could go back to retail any day now, but for the time being it’s a stellar deal.

Here’s why older Apple Watch owners should upgrade

When Apple released the Series 11 in 2025, a handful of the striking features it unveiled also rolled out to the ninth- and tenth-generation models, including the new hypertension notification feature. In other words, Watch Series 9 and Watch Series 10 have to tech to handle the new features.

However, if you have a Watch Series 8 or older, you’re missing out on the aforementioned blood pressure monitor, longer battery life (up to 24 hours), faster charging (80 percent in 30 minutes), and even the sleep apnea tracker that launched with Series 10.

I know what you’re thinking. Why not just get an Apple Watch Series 10 or something? Surely it should be cheaper than the Series 11, one of Apple’s newest smartwatches (alongside the Ultra 3 and SE 3). You’d be wrong. As of this writing, the Watch Series 10 is $30 pricier than the Watch Series 11.

Features exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 11

So, which features are exclusive to the Watch Series 11? It’s less likely to be scratched and get banged up, thanks to newly fortified Ion-X glass, which Apple claims is the toughest in the industry. And unlike its predecessors, it has better power efficiency (I know your old Apple Watch dies pretty quickly), with a claimed battery runtime of up to 24 hours. It also supports 5G, which means faster data speeds when you’re away from Wi-Fi.

Of course, you’re getting Apple’s full suite of health and fitness tools, including ECG readings, heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, workout metrics, and detailed sleep insights, all packed inside a tougher Series 11 chassis.

As someone who has tested the Series 11, I enjoy the extra boost in battery life. The runtime jump from my Watch Series 10 to Series 11 wasn’t major, but the extra few hours have been enough to make a difference on long days when I don’t have a chance to charge it.

If you want an even cheaper smartwatch, consider the Watch SE 3, Apple’s entry-level wearable I’ve reviewed for Esquire, which is now on sale for $219 via Amazon. You’ll get all the core health and fitness tools, but keep in mind that you’ll miss out on hypertension notifications and ECG readings.

Whether you want the Watch Series 11 or SE 3, you better act fast. They won’t remain on sale for long.
