Virginia’s ‘Outlander’ exhibit is perfect for fans during Season 8

The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown offers visitors a look at our nation’s early history through artifacts, films, indoor and outdoor exhibits and more thanks to the endless research done by historians over the years. Though Outlander might be a fictional series, there’s something to be said about the way it represents the time periods in which the show has taken place over its 8 seasons, and costume designer for Seasons 1 through 4, Terry Dresbach, helped bring that world to life through the clothes each character wore.

At the Outlander: Costumes Woven in Time exhibit, visitors will find 26 costumes “spanning postwar 1940s Scotland, the 18th-century Highlands, Parisian opulence, the journey to early America and the cultural shifts of the 1960s,” explained a press release.

“As I approached my job as Costume Designer, I was constantly asking myself questions,” explained Terry Dresbach. “Who are these people? What was their daily life like? What’s the history of their family? What was happening in the world they lived in? History is so much more than the listing of dates in a textbook. It’s the story of being human. This exhibit is a wonderful opportunity to examine our own lives and the history we create every day as we get dressed. I hope you enjoy the exhibit as much as I enjoyed doing the work behind it.”
