2 min readThe Miniature Wife follows a scientist who accidentally shrinks his spouse down to a mere six inches tall. But at the Peacock comedy’s red-carpet premiere at the DGA Theater Complex in Los Angeles, California on Monday night, the amount of talent that showed up for the event could barely even fit on a stage.
Surrounded by massive household props designed to evoke the shrunken size of Elizabeth Banks’s character, the actress joined stars Matthew Macfadyen, Zoe Lister-Jones, O-T Fagbenle, Sofia Rosinsky, co-creator Steve Turner, and showrunner Jennifer Ames for a panel following the screening. It was moderated by Esquire editor-at-large Dave Holmes and hosted in partnership with Esquire, ELLE, and NBCUniversal.
Banks leads The Miniature Wife as Lindy Littlejohn, a best-selling author who is accidentally downsized to the height of a Barbie doll by her husband Les’s (Macfadyen) latest invention. It’s almost as if Honey, I Shrunk the Kids mixed with the tone a Bill Lawrence dramedy. Or, as Ames called it, “a cross between The Incredible Shrinking Woman and The War of the Roses.”
During the panel, the cast shared their favorite moments from throughout the series, before each answering what they would do if they were shrunken down to six inches tall.
Banks replied that she would sneak into the White House and “fuck that shit up.” (Wouldn’t we all!) Macfadyen said that he would probably just hide, while Lister-Jones mentioned that she could watch reality TV like it was IMAX. Macfadyen also revealed that he filmed most of his scenes with a tiny doll while Banks was away in a green-screen box. Then, before the group headed off to an afterparty at LA’s Chateau Marmont, Ames joked that the series taught her that “miniaturization might be a good substitute for couples counseling.”
