Just a day after performing at Coachella, the Icelandic singer Laufey debuted her latest video “Madwoman” off the recently released deluxe version of her 2025 album A Matter of Time, which won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album during this year’s ceremony. The groovy ’60s bop features a glittering cast that includes Olympic Gold-medal winner Alysa Liu, Forbidden Fruits’s Lola Tung, The Studio’s Chase Sui Wonders, Bottoms’s Havana Rose Liu, and Katseye’s Megan Skiendel. And because you can’t have the hottest cast of the year without a certified hunk, Heated Rivalry’s Hudson Williams is play’s the video’s requisite heartthrob. After the video hit the internet, fans quickly realized that the singer had assembled an all-star cast of Asian American icons (well, Williams is actually Canadian, so make that Asian American and Asian Canadian icons).
The song, with string arrangements that hint ever-so-slightly to the Mad Men theme song, sees Laufey discovering that Williams is being unfaithful on the cover of a fashion magazine, but unable to resist his charms (or his body as he jumps out of the pool in slow motion). Playful choreography ensues, which flash-forward to a future in which Hudson proposes, leaving Laufey to question her life, get in her car and escape to a new life—except the road has given way to a giant sinkhole and she is forced to return back home to life with the philanderer. So much for a happy ending!
Except it is a happy ending for Laufey, who is ensuring no part of culture goes untouched with a truly deluxe (sorry) album rollout. First, there is “Madwoman,” the Erewhon smoothie, which along with strawberries, pomegranate juice, blueberries, and banana; includes collagen and pearl powder. If the $23 price tag seems to steep, remember it “supports” The Laufey foundation, the singer’s non-profit that help supports young musicians from all backgrounds. Then there is the electric Lexus she apparently inspired, which she celebrated by recording a rendition of Miles Davis’s “Blue in Green” (also the name of the car!), evident in the vehicle’s holographic paintjob that also feels a little Batman-inspired.
And if performing at Coachella for two weekends wasn’t enough, Laufey will also be headlining the Fortnite Festival, following Chappell Roan who had the honors last year. The headlining slot generally involves skins, Emotes, cosmetics, and other essentials of the Fortnite universe but it seems fans will have to wait until the festival takes place on April 16 to find out what they can spend their hard-earned V-Bucks on. It all has the makings of a very 2026 pop star.
