Broadcaster Ryan Tubridy has confirmed that he has repaid €150,000 to RTÉ, following months of public scrutiny over payments made to him by the national broadcaster.

In a statement issued to BusinessPlus.ie today, Tubridy said: “Earlier today I made a payment of €150,000 to RTE.

“I made this payment through my solicitor, without any discussions with RTE – or with anyone acting on their behalf – and without condition.

“I have said on various occasions that I intended making this payment and I’m happy to have been able to do so today.”

The repayment comes in the wake of revelations about undisclosed payments to the former Late Late Show host, which led to a major crisis at RTÉ, senior resignations, and multiple reviews of the broadcaster’s governance and transparency.

Tubridy, who left RTÉ last year and is now writing a column in the Irish Mail on Sunday and presenting a weekday radio show in the UK, has consistently maintained that he was willing to return the money in question.
