Irish construction firm PJ Hegarty has appointed long-serving executive Maurice Killeen as Managing Director for Ireland as the company continues to expand its operations across key infrastructure, pharmaceutical and commercial sectors.

Killeen, who joined the family-owned business in 1993, succeeds to the senior leadership role after more than three decades with the company, during which he oversaw major projects across the civil, industrial, pharmaceutical, life sciences and commercial sectors.

The appointment comes as PJ Hegarty continues to grow its presence in Ireland and the UK, with annual turnover now exceeding €500m.

The company employs more than 500 people and last year celebrated its 100th anniversary in Ireland.

Mr Killeen most recently served as Operations Director for the Southern Region after being appointed to the company’s board in 2022.

Prior to that, he held the role of Regional Director. He is an engineering graduate of University College Dublin.

In a statement, Killeen said he was looking forward to leading the next phase of the company’s development in Ireland.

“From the outset, my journey with PJ Hegarty has been shaped by working with exceptional people throughout our industry to deliver important and noteworthy projects across a broad range of sectors,” he said.

“I am delighted to take on the role of Managing Director and excited to lead the continued growth and success of our Irish business.”

The company has also announced the appointment of Barry Dodd as Managing Director for its UK operations, where he will oversee a business expected to generate turnover of £110m this year.

PJ Hegarty is currently involved in a number of high-profile projects across Ireland, including the development of Citibank’s headquarters in Dublin Docklands and a major programme of works at Dublin and Cork airports.

The contractor is also delivering several large-scale data centre and pharmaceutical projects for multinational clients, alongside Ireland’s tallest residential building — the 25-storey Railyard development at Albert Quay in Cork.

Founded more than a century ago, PJ Hegarty has established itself as one of Ireland’s leading construction and civil engineering companies, with operations spanning commercial, infrastructure, aviation, residential and specialist sectors.
