Renate Reinsve’s Cannes Look Will Make You Rethink Red Carpet Glam—Find Out How She Stole the Show in Unexpected Style!
Cannes has spoken, and the crown has a new queen—Renate Reinsve. After a whirlwind week of glitz, glam, and cinematic magic on the French Riviera, this Norwegian powerhouse didn’t just pack up and leave quietly. Nope, she blasted off the festival with a jaw-dropping final red-carpet statement that left us wondering—can a floor-length cloak and disco pants redefine elegance and audacity all at once? As the lights dimmed on the 79th Cannes Film Festival, Reinsve’s daring Louis Vuitton ensemble, crafted by Nicolas Ghesquière himself, proved that sometimes, less fabric means more impact. But beyond the sparkle and flash, there’s a deeper story stirring with her Palme d’Or-winning film, Fjord—a tale of roots and rediscovery that’s about to hit screens later this year. So, what does it take to conquer Cannes, dress the part, and still keep the authenticity shining through? Let’s dive in and unpack this cinematic and style triumph. LEARN MORE
Renate Reinsve is officially the queen of Cannes. After over a week full of premieres, photo calls, custom gowns, runway pulls, and celebrity sightings, the film industry has headed home—leaving the French Riviera to return to Los Angeles, New York, London, or, in the case of the Sentimental Value star, Oslo. But before the festival officially wrapped, the Norwegian actor got in one final show-stopping red-carpet look.
Attending Cannes’s official closing ceremony, in which her film Fjord was honored with the Palme d’Or award, Reinsve skirted by the festival’s strict dress code with a sparkling, daring Louis Vuitton look. Made custom by artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière, it featured a floor-length sleeveless black cloak, fastened solely at the neckline, silver sequin disco pants, and not much else. The top was styled open and the pants were designed with a low-rise fit, leaving the actor’s torso completely bare.
A stack of dazzling diamond jewelry, a pair of shiny silver heels, and the prestigious trophy finished things off.
Throughout the festival, the actor worked with stylist Karla Welch on a handful of Louis Vuitton looks, including an asymmetrical white gown designed for the premiere of Fjord.
She attended both red carpets with her co-star, Sebastian Stan, and director, Cristian Mungiu—whose big win gave him his second Palme d’Or to date. The first, awarded back in 2007, was for his film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
Out later this year, Fjord follows a Romanian-Norwegian couple as they move to the wife’s remote Norwegian hometown.
