On Wednesday night, Lexi Minetree—who portrays a high-school version of the beloved early-aughts character on the forthcoming comedy Elle—sat down with Jimmy Fallon in a spaghetti-strap piece that might look familiar to a Legally Blonde super-fan. Covered entirely in a black netting overlay for a very Y2K color combination, it was the spitting image of the Marc Jacobs look Witherspoon wore to the 2001 premiere of the OG film.
Days later, stylist Molly Dickson revealed that the dress, which also featured a V neckline and flared hem, did not simply resemble its 25-year-old precursor. It was, in fact, the exact same piece—borrowed directly from the Big Little Lies star’s own personal collection.
While Witherspoon wore the dress with strappy sandals and a clutch, Minetree went with a black top-handle Kate Spade bag and hot-pink Steve Madden heels.
