TAYLOR SHERIDAN’S MASSIVE Yellowstone franchise expanded once again with the arrival of Dutton Ranch, the latest show in his collaboration with Paramount+. This time, it focuses on the famously hotheaded Beth Dutton, the daughter of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. Played by Kelly Reilly, she tries to start a new life in Texas with her husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).

“For Beth, there was a corner to turn,” Reilly told The Hollywood Reporter about going from the end of Yellowstone to Dutton Ranch. “Not only was the show literally changing locations, but internally, after the death of Beth’s father, the question for me was: ‘How does that change someone?’ The trauma and the fight. Everything she did was about protecting that legacy. So I was interested in the inner landscape of a woman who doesn’t know who she is right now.”

However, Beth’s fresh start doesn’t go as smoothly as she planned. The season premiere started with Rip having to dispose of the body of a ranch hand named Wes, who had been murdered by Rob-Will Jackson (Jai Courtney), of the Jackson family that owns the 10 Petal Ranch they work on.

Later in the season, Rip eventually finds out the truth of who killed Wes. The head of the Jackson family ranch, Belulah (Annette Bening), then gets threatened by Rob-Will into leaving the ranch to him following her retirement, rather than her eldest son Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba).

Ahead of the debut season’s finale, Beth and Rip begin to teach their adopted son Carter (Finn Little) how to be a better cowboy. Belulah also tries to get Rob-Will and Joaquin to lead the ranch together, but it doesn’t go over well, and that tension spills directly into the finale (in the penultimate episode, Belulah also ends up in the hospital following a heart attack).

With season 1 of Dutton Ranch on the ropes, here’s what we know about season 2.

Will Dutton Ranch return for season 2?

Dutton Ranch set record numbers in season 1, so it was no surprise when Paramount+ announced on June 24 that the spinoff series would be returning for a second season.

“Dutton Ranch has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity,” Matt Thunell, president of Paramount Television Studios, said about the renewal. “Thank you to our partners at Paramount+ and 101 Studios for a phenomenal first season. We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in season two.”

However, some major shakeups have also been in the works.

Chad Feehan, who served as the season 1 showrunner and an executive producer, announced before the show’s premiere that he was leaving. This means that Feehan would not contribute to anything in regard to season 2 of Dutton Ranch.

Now, ahead of season 2, Benjamin Cavell is stepping in for Feehan as the new showrunner. Cavell has previously worked on programs like Justified, Homeland, and SEAL Team.

Earlier in June, the Dutton Ranch stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser were asked about Feehan’s exit during their interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Showrunners change all the time,” Hauser said. “This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”

“We finished [season one] with Chad beautifully,” Reilly added. “We finished this season together. It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that.”

Who is in the Dutton Ranch season 2 cast?

Outside of the crew adjustments, most of the cast of Dutton Ranch is expected to return for season 2. Both Reilly and Hauser will likely be reprising their starring roles, as well as the rest of the cast, which includes Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, Natalie Alyn Lind, Ed Harris and Annette Bening.

During Reilly and Hauser’s The Hollywood Reporter discussion, the duo also shared that they would “love” to see a crossover between Dutton Ranch and another Yellowstone spinoff, Marshals, as the latter follows Beth’s brother, Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes.

After the events of Yellowstone, Kayce joins a team of U.S. Marshals to help them out in Montana.

“I would love it. Luke is one of our closest friends and like a brother to me,” Hauser said about a potential reunion.

Reilly added, “Yes, I would love for Beth to meet up with Kayce. I would love an episode like that. That would be really special.” Hauser then shared, “I would like to see Rip and Kayce get along for a change. A little peace.”

When will Dutton Ranch season 2 premiere?

While there isn’t a release date for Dutton Ranch season 2 just yet, it could follow a similar schedule to season 1 of the show. Filming began around August 2025, according to the Dallas Express, before its May 2026 premiere.

If the season 2 schedule follows a similar pattern, Dutton Ranch likely wouldn’t return until May 2027 at the earliest.
