Lyft’s Bold Play: How Acquiring Lynk and Swift Could Rewrite the Taxi Dispatch Game Forever
Ever wondered what happens when an industry giant like Lyft decides to play chess with local taxi dispatchers in Ireland? Well, buckle up—Lyft, the powerhouse parent behind Freenow, has just acquired two of Ireland’s key players in the taxi game: Dublin’s Lynk and Limerick’s Swift (a.k.a. 313131). Now, the terms might be hush-hush—Lyft calls it “financially immaterial”—but trust me, the ripples are anything but small. Lynk’s deep roots with Dublin businesses and public sector, combined with Swift’s pharma and health sector ties in Limerick, mean this isn’t just another tech takeover—it’s a strategic move blending old-school phone bookings with high-tech app convenience. What does this mean for drivers, businesses, and passengers? Faster pickups, expanded networks, and a smarter ride experience fueled by homegrown expertise meeting global muscle. It’s the kind of blend that makes you pause: can traditional methods and cutting-edge tech really ride shotgun to success? Lyft’s integration promises just that—and then some. Freenow parent Lyft has announced the acquisition of both Lynk and Swift, taxi booking and dispatch apps based in Dublin and Limerick, respectively.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Lyft said the transaction is “financially immaterial”.
Lynk is a longstanding Dublin phone-booking taxi dispatcher and B2B partner to the public sector and hundreds of local businesses.
Swift, known locally as 313131, is the top dispatcher in Limerick and a B2B partner to the pharma and health sectors in the city.
Both companies will be integrated into the Freenow platform, and Lyft said passengers can expect faster pick-up times due to more drivers.
Drivers from both companies will be available by phone but also through the Freenow by Lyft app.
Lyft said B2B clients and city partners of Lynk and Swift can expect operations to continue as normal, and local staff will be retained to maintain local knowledge.
“Limerick has always been important to us — it’s one of the first cities Freenow launched in Ireland, and Swift’s position as the city’s top dispatcher builds directly on that history,” said Danny O’Gorman, general manager at Freenow by Lyft Ireland.
“At the same time, Lynk strengthens our position in business travel, an area we’re actively growing. Across both, our focus is the same: working with drivers to deliver prompt, safe, reliable service for passengers.”
Over half of all taxi bookings in Ireland are made offline, and the integration of Lynk and Swift’s phone-based dispatch capabilities is expected to enhance Freenow’s market position.
Noel Ebbs, CEO at Lynk, said: “As a leading taxi dispatcher and a trusted B2B partner for many local businesses, we’re excited to start a new chapter with Lyft.
“Together, we’ll be able to continue the excellent service we’ve provided to clients and passengers, and make more trips available to drivers.”
A spokesperson for Swift Taxis added: “After 35 years serving Limerick, we’re looking forward to the future with Lyft.
“Combining our local roots with Freenow by Lyft’s technology means we can keep Limerick moving, with even better taxi service for drivers, passengers, and business partners across the city.”

Lyft recently acquired the Getts, a leading London black cab app with a strong corporate B2B presence.
Freenow was acquired by Lyft for €175m last year after making a profit of €9.22m in 2024 with turnover growing to €48.3m.
