So, if you find yourself itching to catch the mayhem on your couch rather than sweating it out in a crowded theater, you might be as curious as I am about when this comedy gem slips onto the streaming scene. Spoiler alert: it’s coming sooner than you think… LEARN MORE

This is Police Squad—the new version. Out now in theaters is The Naked Gun, a glorious sequel to the original trilogy that invites audiences back into the precinct of Police Squad.

This time it’s with Detective Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson), who carries on his father’s legacy as he takes on a case involving the mysterious death of a software engineer and the evil tech billionaire behind it. Along the way, he teams up with the software engineer’s sister, the gorgeous crime novelist Beth Davenport (Pamela Anderson) to crack the case. If they don’t, it’s goodbye Police Squad, hello Spirit Halloween.

Sandwiched between more superhero blockbusters like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps and horror hits like Weapons, The Naked Gun stood firm at the summer box office and scored high with critics and audiences who, let’s be frank (Drebin), are all in need of a good laugh these days. But whether you can’t make it to a theater or need to see a demonic snowman terrorize Neeson and Anderson all over again, you might be wondering when the streaming release for The Naked Gun will happen. Good news: It’s happening a lot sooner than you think.

When Is The Naked Gun Streaming?

As a production of Paramount Pictures, The Naked Gun is destined to have a semipermanent streaming home on Paramount+. While many Paramount movies leave Paramount+ to stream on other platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, that all happens on an individual basis and is all dependent on the title itself.

For now, it’s an extremely safe assumption that The Naked Gun will head to Paramount+ as its first streaming home. The good news is that it will arrive sooner than you might realize. Since 2021, Paramount has implemented an approximate 30- to 45-day theatrical window for all its new releases, with “smaller movies” getting just 30 days in theaters according to TheWrap. Being a hit movie with star power and a genuine box-office success, The Naked Gun is by definition a “bigger movie” and will likely end its theatrical run 45 days after its August 1 release date.

While it’s not confirmed, you should expect The Naked Gun to stream on Paramount+ starting on or around September 15. Which means there’s still time to check out The Naked Gun in theaters (trust us, the big screen is where it’s at) but not a terribly long wait if you’d prefer the comfort of your couch. Just too bad you can’t TiVo it, along with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
