Unlock the Secret Spring Style Moves From Copenhagen Fashion Week That Will Transform Your Wardrobe—and Your Confidence
After my latest pilgrimage to Copenhagen Fashion Week, one thing hit me harder than a clinch in the octagon: inspiration was absolutely infinite. Seriously, have you ever wondered why this Scandinavian spectacle unofficially kicks off Fashion Month? Well, it’s like the opening bell before the real fight in the big four cities begins. This season, the Spring 2026 collections dropped with such force from Scandinavian designers, leaving fashion enthusiasts like me eagerly counting down to the next knockout looks. But here’s the kicker — Copenhagen’s street style? It’s a beast of its own, unlike anything else out there. Between Cecilie Bahnsen’s decade-plus runway jubilee and quirky accessories from Le Sundial, the city served up a masterclass in style hustle beyond the catwalk, with epic events at Lié Studio, By Malene Birger, and Tekla that got everyone talking. You don’t want to miss how deep that Scandi cool runs, how it weaves through everything from layering hacks to daring pops of color. So, lace up, and prepare to master the art of spring’s hottest trends — whether you’re gearing up for the office or street-style battles ahead. LEARN MORE
After I returned from Copenhagen Fashion Week, one thing was clear: The inspiration was endless. I now understand why it has become the unofficial kickoff to Fashion Month, as shows across the four major cities begin soon. This season, Scandinavian designers showcased their new Spring 2026 collections, leaving much to look forward to.
While there were numerous trends to draw outfit ideas from outside the shows (Copenhagen’s street style is unlike that of any other city), the Fashion Week runway collections were their best yet. Not only were there several standout moments from the shows through the week—including Cecilie Bahnsan’s 10th anniversary runway celebration and the styling at Skall, which featured jewelry and belts from Le Sundial, designed by Silvia Dusci—but the many presentations and events outside the shows were equally memorable. Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard opened their Lié Studio store for a special aperitif event that featured bags from their new collection. By Malene Birger hosted a dinner showcasing the latest collection that was accompanied by a special performance by Coco O. Meanwhile, Tekla hosted a breakfast previewing its newest pillows, robes, and shirting, all on display.
The Scandi style of the city runs deep, no matter the occasion, and it certainly showed on this season’s runways. Below, here’s a breakdown of the key trends we saw for spring and how to get the looks now.
Master the Art of Layering With Unexpected Separates
You may think of stretchy leggings, a bodycon dress, and a fitted cardigan as only underpinnings, but designers are taking these unexpected separates and mixing them to create new shapes and approaches to layering. For one, grab your fitted dress and pair it with a short-sleeved, oversize T-shirt dress and a Mary Jane flat for an effortlessly cool finish. As we approach the transitional dressing season, consider wearing your cardigan tied around your neck for a hybrid scarf-shawl look, or layer your midi skirt with a pair of leggings underneath.
Think Pink and Lean Into a Head-to-Toe Look
The runways were tickled pink this season, and not in a subtle way! Designers leaned into the hue, sporting looks in pink from head to toe. For minimalists looking to update their wardrobe this season, pair a pink cashmere sweater and jeans, and break up the color with a neutral-colored trench coat and contrasting black flat sandals (flip-flops were a street-style favorite of the week) or shoes. To add more dimension to a monochromatic outfit, opt for fabrics with texture, such as a woven knit shell or shirt with ruffles, paired over a sleek midi pencil skirt for an updated, office-friendly work look.
Double Your Silky Scarf as a Belt
It’s the year of scarves! There’s no cooler way at the moment to wear a silky scarf than tied around your waist as a belt. It’s perfect for breaking up your look. Add a polka-dotted scarf to a white bubble midi skirt with a black cardigan and suede jacket to transition your look into fall. For a lighter approach that’s summer-approved, a floral scarf with a cable-knit top and a white skirt is the best way to elevate an otherwise dainty pattern.
Be Bold and Mix In Pops of Cherry Red
Is red the new neutral? Bold pops of red were everywhere on the runway (and primary colors are having a moment right now). It’s similar to the effect of a red manicure: It creates a colorful statement and looks most sophisticated when worn with minimal everyday separates. As we transition into fall, trench coats are a key piece, and in red, this might be the season’s new hero. To balance the brightness of the red, mix in neutral separates such as a brown A-line skirt with a red tank top or a black heeled leather flip-flop with a slinky red dress.
Wear Tailored Shorts Under a Long Technical Coat
Recently, my colleague Brooke Bobb said, “It’s the summer of shorts,” and designers in Copenhagen confirmed it. There’s a charming irony in a tailored short but an evident practicality, given that this summer has been so hot. The coolest way to wear these is with a technical long coat, such as a parka (a look that feels borrowed from the boys), or a lightweight hybrid car-coat trench in an unexpected color. For the perfect look for running around the city (that’s also office appropriate), pair these with a knitted shell top and flats.
Match Up Sleeveless Midi Tunics and Pants for a New Set
Dresses over pants has been a styling trick designers have played with over the past few seasons (and we did a test-drive ourselves!). However, in Copenhagen, designers are showcasing a refreshing approach to the look: a dramatically long tunic dress paired with trousers. For a bold statement, opt for matching patterns; for a sleeker touch, pair your favorite dress with black wide-leg trousers.
Complete Your Look With Tassels as the Finishing Touch
The conversation around tassels has just begun. They’re truly the perfect finish to your look. We saw them everywhere in street style throughout the week too. Cinch an oversize tunic with a roped tassel belt to break up an otherwise simple look, and add a pop of color with beaded tassel earrings. To spruce up a uniform of your favorite white trousers and black T-shirt, add a cylinder trunk tassel bag.
Mix Unexpected Workwear Tops With Your Tailored Separates
The back-to-school feeling is upon us. At least, that’s how we New Yorkers feel when we’re in the middle of August. That being said, designers have proven this season that getting dressed up again for the office or buttoned-down events can be fun once more. Pair an artisanal knitted, fringed top underneath your favorite suit for some added flair, or replace your tailored vest with a structured tube top underneath a blazer and trousers.
Cue White Dresses With Ruffles, Woven Fringes, and Draping
There’s something so whimsical about Scandinavian style, and this season leaned in. White dresses were everywhere, with hints of bridal, but overall there were so many interesting shapes and details in white, making this feel like a replacement for the little black dress. I love wearing white after Labor Day; in fact, a winter-white jean is my favorite look of all time. These beautiful white dresses made me think about evening dressing in a different light for the season ahead.
