Bitcoin Treasuries Smash $100B—But Can the Market Swallow Metaplanet’s $237M Bet Without Breaking?

So, Bitcoin treasury companies just hit a milestone that screams “bullish momentum” — their combined holdings vaulted past $100 billion again, clocking in at a whopping $109 billion by the end of August. That’s no small potatoes, especially following Bitcoin’s recent bounce back. But here’s the kicker: Metaplanet, one of the big players, shuffled a massive chunk—3,000 BTC worth $237 million—onto Coinbase Prime. Now, the question on my mind is this: Is Metaplanet just tidying up their portfolio, or are they gearing up to offload some serious Bitcoin? Until we get the full picture, these moves keep the market guessing and on edge. So, what does this mean for Bitcoin’s road ahead? Will the bulls hold their ground, or is this the calm before a storm? Dive in and let’s decode these shifting tides together. LEARN MORE

The value of Bitcoin held by treasury companies crossed $100 billion for the first time since early June. Their combined holdings reached $109 billion on the 28th of August, reflecting Bitcoin’s recent recovery.

However, fresh exchange transfers from Metaplanet raised questions about whether some treasury companies could reduce their exposure.

Is Metaplanet preparing to sell Bitcoin?

AMBCrypto previously reported that Metaplanet moved 3,881 BTC worth $247 million.

However, its recorded holdings remained unchanged, suggesting the transfer had not resulted in a confirmed sale. A similar pattern emerged after Lookonchain reported another exchange deposit.

According to the on-chain tracker, Metaplanet transferred 3,000 BTC worth $237 million into Coinbase Prime. Like the previous transfer, the Bitcoin had yet to be sold.

The activity could reflect internal reorganization or preparations for a potential sale. However, its purpose remained unconfirmed.

Bitcoin Treasuries data showed that Metaplanet still held 43,000 BTC worth $3.3 billion. A confirmed sale could increase market pressure. Until then, the transfer’s direct market impact remains neutral.

Can BTC bulls absorb the recent pressure?

Despite concerns around Metaplanet, broader exchange-side pressure remained limited.

Bitcoin’s [BTC] Exchange Supply Ratio fell to a monthly low of 0.134 over ten days. The decline indicated that a smaller proportion of Bitcoin’s supply remained available on exchanges.

Reduced exchange supply has historically supported stronger price moves by limiting readily available selling liquidity.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin fell from $81,000, lost $80,000, and reached $77,000. Even so, broader momentum remained bullish. The Aroon Up stood at 92%, while the Aroon Down remained considerably lower at 7%.

This setup indicated that Bitcoin had recently formed highs more frequently than lows, supporting the broader bullish structure.

However, the ALMA reflected short-term weakness.

Bitcoin traded below the ALMA at $78,647, suggesting that immediate downside pressure had strengthened. Confirmed selling from Metaplanet could deepen that pressure and expose Bitcoin to a possible decline toward $73,000.

By contrast, renewed buying could shorten the pullback and help Bitcoin reclaim $80,000.

Final Summary

  • Bitcoin treasury holdings reached a combined value of $109 billion.
  • Metaplanet transferred 3,000 BTC worth $237 million into Coinbase Prime. Metaplanet’s recorded holdings remained unchanged at 43,000 BTC.
