It’s time to get your long sleeves and baggy jeans out of hibernation. It’s officially September, AKA the transitional period between summer and fall, and Lily Allen just offered up a dose of style inspo for the in-between period.
Ushering in the mini-season, the artist stepped out in New York City for a quick run to McNally Jackson Books while wearing a cropped graphic tee with three-quarter sleeves and the baggiest wide-leg jeans.
The shirt, for starters, featured a vintage pin-up-style drawing, depicting the biblical figure of Judith in a corset, garters, stockings, and long gloves ready to fight. A Latin passage was written across the chest, referencing the tale, in which the heroine slayed the Assyrian general Holofernes to save her city. Translated, it read, “But the Almighty Lord hath plagued him, and delivered him into the hands of a woman.” It was a perfectly playful and poignant statement tee from Allen.
The top was cropped at the waist, where it was met by a pair of mid-rise light-wash blue jeans, with super-baggy wide legs that reached all the way down to the ground. A sliver of midriff between the two reminded us we’re still dealing with summer temperatures.
Allen styled the fit with easy, comfy white sneakers, which were hidden most of the time by her extra-long pants. She added black sunglasses and wired headphones (the most popular It-girl accessory of the moment), and gave the whole look a pop of leopard print with a statement shoulder bag.
