If I’m going outside in the summer, I need to be prepared. Lathered up in my Korean sunscreen and equipped with my Owala water bottle is the only way I feel comfortable to face the great outdoors. So going camping? Forget about it, I crave the warm glow of the TV and electric lighting to soothe me to sleep. It’s why I chose to live in the city.

Still, I do miss the adventure of it all—and the serenity. Just you, a tent, the trees… only thing missing is some light. An average flashlight doesn’t cut it, and the high-powered ones are pretty limited in uses. So when I go camping, I want the the strongest lamp there is. Something that puts out sharp, clear light. Bonus points if it has a few extra bells and whistles for me, a tech guy in the woods. All I had to do was turn to America’s most trusted battery brand for the perfect solution. It’s Bright Enough for City Folk

The Tri-Power rechargeable lantern from Duracell is my most essential piece of outdoor gear. The lamp has a whopping maximum brightness of 3000 lumens. That’s a marked improvement over Duracell’s previous 2000 lumen LED lantern, and one I could see in action. While camping wasn’t on the agenda this past month, I took the lantern everywhere I could, from rooftop hangs to park cook-outs to the beach, and never once did I get the feedback that it wasn’t bright enough.

Frequently, I wasn’t even needing to blast it on the brightest setting. Because of the crispness of the LED light, either of the two lower settings will suffice for city night activities. But if you’re taking this bad boy into the Pine Barrens, you can use all 3,000 of those lumens to pierce through the darkness.

It’s Long Lasting and Solar Powered

The lantern is USB rechargeable, and unlike some of the tech I test it actually comes with a cable. Instead of being unsure of how much life you have left with battery-powered lanterns, you can plug it in to make sure it’s topped off before you leave on your excursion. From there, though, it should be able to sustain through the rest of the trip on solar power. Provided you have clear skies, it’s perfectly viable to keep the lantern charging all day, before flipping it on at sunset to use for the evening’s activities—even if it’s just turning it on low and reading a book.

This means if you forgot to pack a power station for your electronics you aren’t SOL. If you don’t want to carry heavy propane or white gas lanterns, it’s perfect for you. The solar charging is much slower than the USB-C (and nothing compares to the reliability of burning natural gas) but if you leave the lamp out all day to charge you should have no problem getting multiple sustained hours of light from it at night.

If it stopped there, I’d still be happy to recommend the Tri-Power lantern to anyone looking for a mighty new camp light that’s made for 2025. But it turns out it has a secret weapon: wireless phone charging. If you pull back the solar panel, you’ll find a Qi charging pad hiding underneath. This will charge your iPhone that’s MagSafe capable, and it’ll charge any other device that’s wireless-charging capable. It won’t replace a big power bank or generator, but you don’t really need all that in the great outdoors. Truthfully, It’s a great emergency option, and it’s always going to give you enough juice to wake a dead phone.

It’s hard for me to want anything more from a camping light than what the Tri-Power Duracell lantern provides. It’s easy to use, always reliable, and puts out so much damn light. If you catch me at any cookout, camping trip, or low-light hang from now on, know this bad boy is within arms reach.
