Alan Cumming Drops a Mind-Blowing Easter Egg in ‘Traitors: New Blood’—Prepare to Have Your Mind Blown!
Ever wonder what raw salmon is doing lurking inside a treasure hunt on a savage reality show? Well, brace yourself—because Traitors isn’t just back with fresh competitors; it’s also serving up some seriously bizarre breakfast vibes. Picture this: shipwrecked contestants diving through soggy crates, only to find some stuffed with gold and others packed with junk… and then, out of nowhere, a platter of cold, raw salmon stares them down. Who thought that fish belonged in a game about deception and survival? Believe me, this isn’t your average prop—there’s a wicked little inside joke behind it that’s as juicy as a perfectly smoked filet. Between heart-pounding challenges and trickery around the Round Table, salmon has quietly become the MVP fuel, packed with protein and omega-3s to keep those Faithfuls fighting strong. So, when Alan Cumming cracks up about this fishy twist, you know it’s more than just a gag—it’s a nod to the hunger pains and dog-eat-dog scramble for the tastiest bites in the house. Ready to find out why salmon is stealing the spotlight on Traitors: New Blood? Dive in.
Traitors is back with new blood… and a tray of raw salmon? The first challenge of the new season featured the cast of shipwrecked normies searching for gold among a series of waterlogged crates. Only three contained treasure chests laden with $10,000 worth of precious coin, while the rest were filled with old books, assorted junk, and a seemingly random silver platter of sliced fish.
“Who put raw salmon in there?” asked dog groomer/Faithful Arissa.
Who indeed. And who else but Traitors host Alan Cumming could solve this minor mystery?
While he cackled at the prop gag, Cumming can’t take credit for it. Instead, he credits “one of those evil missions people” with masterminding the crate cameo. “It was a little ‘in’ joke because it was so hilarious how much the salmon became a thing at breakfast last year,” Cumming tells Men’s Health. “It was a little Easter egg.”
Longtime Traitors fans will recall how coveted smoked salmon was at breakfast each morning, second only to making it to the table alive. “We would all be scrambling to get the salmon because it was the most edible and delicious thing at the breakfast table,” Traitors season 4 contestant Monét X Change told Betches.
The appeal is understandable—salmon is rich in protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. That means it’s ideal fuel for Faithfuls navigating muscle-straining physical challenges and blood pressure-raising Traitor hunts around the Round Table.
Traitors: New Blood streams live on Peacock every Thursday at 8 pm E.T.
