Most modern TVs look great until you turn them off. Then it’s just a big black rectangle hogging your wall for the rest of the day. The Samsung Frame Pro fixes that, and it’s currently $800 off ahead of Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, which kicks off next week on October 6.

Samsung’s Frame TV kicked off the art TV craze nearly a decade ago, setting a high bar the rest of the field is still trying to match. It hangs nearly flush to the wall inside a swappable bezel, and when you’re not watching it, Art Mode takes over the screen with a painting or a photograph of your choosing. A matte, anti-glare coating helps cut down on reflections, so that the TV looks like a print hanging on your wall instead of a powered-off TV. When Esquire’s Jonathan Evans reviewed the Frame, he said the anti-glare screen alone won him over.

The Frame Pro’s big upgrade over the standard Frame model is a Mini LED backlight. Thousands of tiny dimming zones sit behind the screen, giving you brighter highlights and blacks deep enough that shadows won’t look grayed out. It also has a refresh rate of 144Hz, so motion and animations look smooth. If you watch a lot of sports or play PC games, you’ll want the higher refresh rate.

The Frame Pro also handles cables differently than any TV you’ve set up. All of your devices plug into a separate One Connect Box instead of the TV, giving your setup a much cleaner look. The box can connect to the TV wirelessly, too, so it can be in a cabinet on the other side of the room, giving you more flexibility with placement.

Art Mode comes with a rotating set of free pieces. For the full library of thousands of works from museums and galleries, though, you’ll need to subscribe to the Art Store, which costs $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year. You can also upload your own photos, turning the TV into a giant personal picture frame.

If the Pro is more than you want to spend, the standard 65-inch Frame TV is currently $300 off. You lose the Mini LED backlight and the wireless box, but Art Mode and the matte screen work the same way. You can also save on competing art TVs from other manufacturers, like Amazon’s new Ember Artline, which is nearly 50 percent off for the 55-inch model.
