Starknet [STRK] is in the news today after surging by roughly 20% in just 24 hours. Buying activity across the perpetual market seemed to have driven a majority of the move.
The perpetual market long-to-short ratio, a metric used to classify the contribution of long and short volume for a traded asset, confirmed that long volume led STRK perpetual volume by a significant margin.

All 10 major exchanges recorded higher long volumes than short volumes for STRK. Bybit recorded the most long volume among these exchanges, with 56% of the volume coming from long traders, while Bitunix recorded the least, with around 50.44% of the total volume being led by long traders.
Coinglass also reported that total perpetual market volume hit $158.90 million over the last 24 hours at press time.
Perpetual markets take the lead in STRK trading
A majority of the volume that drove the price as of 8th October came through the perpetual market, giving the group the upper hand. The perpetual-to-spot volume ratio, at the time of writing, had hit 4.04, confirming the notable dominance of perpetual volume.
$34.94 million of this volume came through the perpetual market, compared to spot, which recorded $8.65 million in volume at press time.

This matters because of the volume-price relationship. When there is a notable surge in volume and price rallies within the same period, market momentum is strong, and the asset is likely to sustain that upward movement.
This is presently the case with STRK. With long volume dominating overall activity, buyers could push the rally even further.
Funding rate turns positive as Open Interest rises
The wider perpetual market activity seemed to support this flow too. In fact, Coinglass reported a significant hike in Funding Rates, with the same moving from -0.0015% to 0.0055%.
This move implied that after a brief selling trend, traders of STRK contracts might be mostly positioned for a long trend.

In fact, STRK’s Open Interest has gained by roughly $17.27 million in the last 24 hours alone. This confirmed that fresh capital flowed into the market to most likely fund the bullish positioning.
In the spot market, there seemed to be some profit-taking activity. The Spot Net Inflow, which tracks the buying and selling of an asset across multiple centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, confirmed this too.
8th October’s Spot Net Inflow was valued at $367,000 at press time.

While the Spot Net Inflow stayed positive on 8th October, the last four days have been a consecutive buying-led market. The cumulative Netflows over the past five days, which accounted for the 8th October flow, reached roughly $5.89 million.
This could be considered profit-taking for the time being, especially given the surge. However, if this continues, there is a high chance it could weigh on the gains accumulated.
Final Summary
- STRK surged by 20% as long volume dominated the perpetual market across major exchanges.
- Hike in Open Interest and Funding Rates supported bullish positioning, while spot profit-taking could limit further gains.
