Prince Harry is getting quite candid this week. In a newly released interview with GQ, the Duke of Sussex cycled through a series of personal topics, revealing why he and Duchess Meghan moved their family to the United Kingdom this past August, and even opening up about one of his final conversations with his late mother, Princess Diana.

In the interview, Harry said that he thinks about his mom—who died in a car crash in 1997—“almost every day.”

Princess Diana holds a young Prince Harry in 1987.

Hours before she passed away, Diana called Harry and his older brother, Prince William, while they were staying at Balmoral Castle, the private residence of Queen Elizabeth II at the time.

As the story goes, the call was relatively short because the young princes wanted to return to playing with their cousins, and it would be the last time they would ever hear their mother’s voice.

“If I’d known it was the last call with her, how different that conversation would’ve been… And I’m the one that has to live with that,” Harry told GQ. “And the fact that as a 12-year-old kid, all I wanted to do was go off and run and play with my cousins.”

Prince Harry recently relocated to the U.K. with his family.

The Duke of Sussex went on to say that he still feels a spiritual connection to Diana. “Sometimes there’s questions that I ask her, looking for some kind of response, and sometimes I do get a response,” he shared. “Maybe I’ve spent too much time in California, but having done the work that I’ve done, there is a connection still with my mom that I really do feel her energy at certain times and certain parts of my life.”

A couple weeks back, Harry also sat down for a MasterClass video with Dr. Mary-Frances O’Connor, called Redefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss, where he dissected the grief he experienced upon losing his mom at the age of 12.

“For 15, 20 years, when I was being asked, ‘Are you okay?’ My response was, ‘I’m fine,’” Harry said. “It was numbness, emotional shutdown. And without knowing it, adrenaline was pushing me, was driving me.”
