Addison Rae Stuns in Vintage Rodarte – The Unexpected Style Move Everyone Will Be Talking About!

Ever wonder how a dress could live not just one, or two—but three fabulous lives? Over a decade ago, Rodarte strut onto the Spring 2012 runway with a show-stopping sunflower dress that was part fairy tale, part art history lesson — a nod to Vincent van Gogh’s iconic blooms and the dreamy ‘Sleeping Beauty’ vibe. Fast forward to today, and that very same dress has danced its way into the Met’s Costume Institute and even found a fresh spotlight thanks to none other than Addison Rae. Seriously, what’s the secret sauce that makes fashion pieces transcend time and stages? Is it the artistry? The celebs? Or maybe just a whole lotta sunflowers? Let’s dive into how this golden gown took center stage once again, proving that true style never really sleeps. LEARN MORE

Over a decade ago, Rodarte opened its Spring 2012 runway show with a yellow tea-length dress covered in Dutch postimpressionist painter Vincent van Gogh’s classic sunflowers and inspired, in part, by the 1959 Sleeping Beauty film. It was paired with smokey eyeshadow and chunky heels, and presented to a star-studded front row (including Elle and Dakota Fanning, Taylor Swift, and Tavi Gevinson). The piece, which features an off-the-shoulder top, a drop waist, and a full gathered skirt, later made its way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institute’s 2024 exhibit, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

On Thursday, the dress was given a third life thanks to none other than Addison Rae. Working with Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, as well as stylist Dara Allen, Rae brought the piece (along with some extra sunflowers) to Los Angeles for her intimate Grammy Museum performance, where she treated her audience to stripped-down renditions of her biggest hits, from “Diet Pepsi” to “Fame Is A Gun” to “Headphones On.” Known for her vibrant theatrics and playful visuals, Rae tried out a different side of her artistry, calling only on a pianist and one back-up singer to accompany her on stage.

Her styling, courtesy of Dara Allen, was as simple as the performance’s set-up and production. The singer wore hardly any jewelry, classic taupe Louboutins, and super subtle glam (light eyeshadow, muted lips, and rosy cheeks)—letting her sunflower dress and dazzling vocals take center stage.
