Jim Jarmusch’s comedy drama Father Mother Sister Brother is packed full of recognizable faces. On screen, the ensemble cast—think Adam Driver, Luka Sabbat, and Tom Waits—come together to tell a story of familial challenges, following estranged siblings as they reunite with one another and their emotionally distant parents. Leading the cast is none other than Cate Blanchett. And at Venice Film Festival, her gown was just as striking as her performance on the screen.

The avant-garde piece was pulled from Maison Margiela’s Fall 2025 Couture collection, the first offering from Belgian designer Glenn Martens as the house’s new creative director. As a whole, the show was a daring debut with a plethora of texture, detailing, experimental embellishments, bird motifs, and repurposed materials, but this gown in particular stood out on the runway.

Grounded by a simple recycled polyester bodice, the unsettling floor-length feather skirt (a collage of nature morte paintings) felt alive in motion—and perhaps even more so on Blanchett in Venice. While Martens paired the dark and daring piece with a biker mask and Tabi boots, Blanchett took a different approach, opting for minimal glam, simple hair, and timeless jewelry.

This wasn’t the first time Blanchett made a bold fashion move on the Venice red carpet. Earlier in the week, she celebrated the premiere of Paolo Sorrentino’s Grazia in a bejeweled Armani Privé gown with funky pockets and a floor-length hem. The most exciting part? The star actually previously wore the look to the SAG Awards in 2022, sparking a dialogue on red carpet fashion and the politics of outfit repeating.
