Toronto Film Festival is in full swing, and with it, we got another look at the future of Jonathan Anderson’s Dior. The beloved designer, known for both his namesake brand, JW Anderson, and his work reinvigorating Spanish luxury house Loewe, took the reins as creative director of both the women’s and men’s lines earlier this summer. But while he made his debut for Dior Homme back in June at Paris Men’s Fashion Week, we’re still counting down the days until he presents his inaugural womenswear collection.
In the meantime, however, we’ve gotten several glimpses into what the French Maison might look like through his lens. In Venice, Anderson dressed several of the Film Festival’s biggest stars in his own reinterpretations of Dior classics, from Greta Lee’s “New Look’ and Mia Goth’s chocolate-brown train to Monica Barbaro’s drop-waist gown crafted from pleated silk.
Now, Ana Taylor-Joy has joined the lineup. Wearing a custom baby blue satin number to the premiere of her new film Sacrifice, a Romain Gavras-directed adventure comedy film that also stars Chris Evans, Salma Hayek, and Charli XCX, the actress looked equal parts elegant and unconventional. The gown, which featured a sleeveless bodice and high neckline, flared out from her waist into a voluminous skirt with fabric folds sewed into a weaving pattern. Part ribbon, part basket.
Continuing with the blue color palette, Taylor-Joy—who works with stylist and “image architect” Law Roach—dressed the neckline up with an aquamarine Tiffany & Co. piece, and paired the jewels with a matching bracelet. While her Louboutin pumps weren’t glass, her icy blonde hair gave a contemporary twist on a Cinderella moment. And she was certainly the belle of the ball.
