George Clooney’s Unseen Side: The Heartwarming, Raw Moments With Twins Ella and Alexander You Never Knew!

Ever wonder how Hollywood’s biggest star manages to keep the chaos of twin toddlers under wraps while juggling an A-list life? George Clooney and Amal Clooney have built a fortress of privacy around their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, shielding them from the endless glare of the public eye. Yet, in a rare and refreshingly candid interview with Esquire, George pulls back the curtain on what it’s really like to raise kids away from the paparazzi frenzy—where dinner involves grown-up table manners, bee stings can turn into mini crises, and family humor runs wild (spoiler alert: Mama’s cooking is humorously lethal). It’s not often that George and Amal Clooney share anecdotes about their eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, and it’s even rarer that the two are spotted in public (the couple prefers to keep their children sheltered away from the spotlight). However, in a new interview for Esquire, George offers a peek into his life with his children like never before.

The profile reads like a day in the life of the Clooneys, and throughout George’s chat with writer Ryan D’Agostino, Ella and Alexander pop up at various moments—playing games, cracking jokes, and even dealing with one catastrophe (Alexander gets stung by a bee).

There’s one moment where the twins even poke a bit of fun at their mother.

Amal and George Clooney have been together since 2014, and they welcomed their twins in 2017.

As the Clooneys prepare to host their extended family for an outdoor luncheon, Amal clarifies that she didn’t make any of the dishes. In response, George calls out to his children, saying: “Ella, Alexander! If Mama cooks, what happens?” Then, the family shouts in unison: “We all die!” Clearly, there’s no shortage of humor in this family.

Amal and George welcomed their twins in June 2017, nearly three years after tying the knot at a palace in Venice, Italy.

“Yeah, we’re very lucky,” George tells Esquire of the life that he and Amal have built. “You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for [Ella and Alexander], it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

As for the reason why the Clooneys are so protective of their little ones, George adds: “I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France—they kind of don’t give a shit about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

This past April, George gushed about Ella and Alexander during a different interview with CBS Mornings. “They’re really curious and funny … and make us laugh,” he told Gayle King. “Amal and I are having a really great time in life.”
