Best E-reader/Smart Notebook Combo
Amazon Kindle Scribe (16 GB)
If you’re in the market for a smart notebook and an e-reader, the Kindle Scribe is a great investment. Amazon has slashed $100 from its price, making it now just $300. The Scribe boasts a larger 10.2-inch glare-free screen designed for comfortable reading and writing both indoors and outdoors. It offers a digital notebook with a variety of templates and the ability to import and mark up documents and PDFs. One of its standout features? Built-in AI notebook summarization—and its handwriting-to-readable-font conversion—that enhances productivity. And if you’re the kind of reader who likes to document your thoughts as you read, the Active Canvas feature lets you create space to take notes within books. Need more storage space? It also comes in 32 and 64 GB versions.
Best Color Kindle
Amazon Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB)
For the past few months, I’ve been using the new Kindle Colorsoft. I pretty much take it with me everywhere I go. There have been a dozen generations of Kindles since its launch in 2007, but this one is the first to offer an e-reading experience in color, which means you can read graphic novels and see illustrations just as they appear on the physical book’s pages. Even if you’re not into manga, comic books, or other illustrated novels, it’s still fun to see every book cover in your library in color—and instead of ads, the Kindle Colorsoft has vibrant illustrations and pictures as screensavers. Extra bonus: You can highlight your favorite passages in different colors now too. It also comes in a Signature Edition with 32 GB of storage space.

Best Premium Kindle
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB)
Before I had the Colorsoft, I had the Paperwhite. The Paperwhite is basically the Colorsoft, just without the color, so if you don’t read many graphic novels and don’t care too much about seeing illustrations in color, the Paperwhite is the way to go. It’s the fastest version of the Kindle to date and features a seven-inch display, a glare-free screen, and up to 12 weeks of battery life on a single charge. It’s currently marked down 22 percent for a sale price of $125, the same low price we saw during Amazon’s July Prime Day.
Best Basic Kindle
Amazon Kindle (16 GB)
Want the no-frills, most basic model that still has everything you need for a great reading experience? Try the basic Kindle. It doesn’t have the waterproof design and warm-light features of the other models, but it is the most compact Kindle, with a portable six-inch screen. If you’re looking for something under $100, this one is for you—Amazon has it currently marked down by 23 percent for a sale price of $85.
