Jalen Hurts, it seems, has a bit of a sentimental side. Because today, before the Eagles’ game against the New York Giants, he’s getting dressed in a custom Coach look that throws it back to not one, but two key moments in the multiple-championship-winning quarterback’s career.
The bespoke burgundy suit—underpinned by a color-matched mock-neck and finished off with a pair of the New York-based label’s Reagan loafers—is a riff on the one he wore to the Super Bowl Ring Ceremony this past summer. And the bag he’s carrying is the same model he brought to the big game itself.
“I wore this suit in a different color to the ring ceremony and loved the feel and fit of it, so I decided to try it out in red,” Hurts says. “And the Empire bag is one of my favorite pieces. I carried it to the Super Bowl and it felt right to pair it with this look.”
Stuart Vevers, the creative director of Coach, says that Hurts has a strong point of view when it comes to fashion—which mirrors a wider trend when it comes to the athletic world. “There’s a real dialogue happening between sport and fashion—alive with creativity. I find it exciting to see athletes express their individuality and creativity beyond what happens on the field,” Vevers says. “Jalen has such a clear sense of style—confident, expressive, and his own. For this look, we reimagined his ring ceremony suit in a rich red that really captures that energy.”
Hurts, for his part, sees the outfit as part of a larger equation that spans everything from the look and feel of the clothing to the headspace he’s in before a game. “What I wear is a form of expression and aligns with what I’m feeling that morning,” he says. “The outfit is the finishing touch to a week of evaluation and preparation.”
