Sharing is certainly caring, and when all the stylists and stars are in the same city, it’s certainly easy, too. Yet this might be a Venice Film Festival first.
At The Testament of Ann Lee photo call, Amanda Seyfried made her way down the step-and-repeat in a full Versace getup. A picture of relaxed suiting with a slight nautical twist, she stunned in an oversized navy blazer with broad shoulders and wide lapels. Scrunched up to her elbows and left unbuttoned, it opened to reveal a striped button down, classic gold buckle belt, and high-waisted dark wash jeans. On her feet? Open toe sandals and red nail polish.
And if the ensemble looked familiar, you’re not wrong.
Julia Roberts first debuted the Versace look at her own photo call for Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt, where she stopped for photos alongside Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, and Chloë Sevigny. And while the protocol for photo call style might be more relaxed than their premiere counterparts, this one was a particularly exciting one—as it gave us a glimpse into the future of Versace.
Earlier this year, Donatella Versace announced she would be stepping down after a three decade-long reign of the label her brother Gianni founded back in 1978. The company appointed Dario Vitale to take her place, leaving him with the exciting challenge of defining a new era for the house, one without a Versace family member at the head of the table. Roberts gifted Venice a sneak peek into what that might look like, and Seyfried, understandably, couldn’t wait to get her hands on it.
The two actresses share the stylist Elizabeth Stewart, who took to Instagram to reveal that the Versace look was passed from closet to closet, after Seyfried commented on an earlier shot of Roberts, “please let me wear the same outfit.” Can we be next?
The Testament of Ann Lee, directed by Mona Fastvold, is a forthcoming historical drama musical starring Seyfried as the founding leader of the 18th century religious sect known as Shakers.
