Our Glinda has arrived to the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, wearing custom Fendi and styled by Law Roach.
While Ariana Grande will soon be in press mode to promote her forthcoming Wicked sequel, Wicked: For Good, tonight’s all about her music, specifically her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, and its accompanying short film, Brighter Days Ahead, which is one of the most-nominated visuals of the night.
Grande arrived to the ceremony wearing a Fendi gown covered in white polka dots. The strapless dress was inspired by a piece worn in the 1980s by the brand’s creative director of accessories, menswear, and children—and a Fendi family member herself—Silvia Venturini.
Because you can never have too many dots, Grande tied a black-and-white-dotted ribbon around her high ponytail. She accessorized simply with jewelry from Swarovski.
Later in the night, Grande changed into three other ensembles: a black sequined minidress, a black-and-white gown that looked like the wing of a butterfly, and a little white tutu minidress à la Carrie Bradshaw.
Thanks to her cinematic Brighter Days Ahead short film, Grande is tied with her frequent collaborator the Weeknd as the sixth-most-nominated artist of the evening, with seven nods each. Only Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Sabrina Carpenter, and Rosé stand ahead of them.
Inspired by the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the film sees Grande reprising her role as Peaches, a character who first appears in the music video for “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).” In that visual, Peaches goes to a company called Brighter Days Inc. to erase all memories she has of her time with an ex. Then, Brighter Days Ahead takes place 70 years later, when Peaches is given the opportunity to revisit four of her most valuable memories one last time.
The short film was directed by Christian Breslauer and cowritten by him and Grande. At the 2025 MTV VMAs, it is nominated for Video of the Year, Best Pop, Best Long Form Video, Best Direction, Best Cinematography (Jeff Cronenweth), and Best Visual Effects (Mathematic). Meanwhile, Grande is also nominated for Best Pop Artist.
