How Karla Souza’s Surprisingly Simple Self-Care Hacks Keep Her Thriving as a Mom of Three—And You Can Steal Them Too

Ever wonder how an actor and mom of three even finds a minute to breathe, let alone hit up a spa? At 40, she admits, with a chuckle, “Y’all, I can’t remember the last time I went to a spa!” Instead, she doubles down on low-drama rituals that feed both her body and brain—like sweating it out with her husband on workout dates and diving deep into therapy sessions. And get this: while filming her latest series in Montreal, Karla and her hubby stumbled upon a hot yoga studio so good, they practically lived there whenever time allowed. As an actor and mom of three, Karla Souza doesn’t exactly have the time to indulge in a litany of massages, pedicures, and facials. “Y’all, I can’t remember the last time I went to a spa!” she tells Women’s Health in the latest episode of the video series Well Said. Instead, the 40-year-old prioritizes no-fuss rituals that nourish her body and mind, like regular exercise and therapy.

“I do love to work out with my husband,” Karla says, adding that it’s one of the activities they like to do on their date nights. Whether with husband Marshall Trenkman or solo, Karla tries to exercise three to four times a week.

That consistency also extends to when she’s on-set. While in Montreal filming her latest series, 56 Days (streaming now on Prime Video), in which she plays detective Lee Reardon, Karla and Marshall discovered a local hot yoga studio that they absolutely fell in love with. “We just lived there,” she says. “As soon as we had a free day, a free moment, we would be heading to the hot yoga studio.”

Therapy is another practice Karla says the couple often partake in together. “The bill is coming if you don’t deal with that,” Karla says of her mental health. She’s also recently taken up meditation as another way to tap into her inner life. But, again, she admits that prioritizing herself can be a struggle.

“I’m in this 12-step program that is encouraging me to meditate every day, which is so hard for me, because I choose myself last,” she says. “So this whole meditation thing is like, you have to choose yourself, to be in silence and just breathe and all that stuff. So I’m working on it.”
