How Loewe’s Bold American Takeover is Shaking Up Paris Fashion Like Never Before — You Won’t Believe What’s Next!

How do you fix what’s not broken? It’s a puzzler, right? Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have been handed the keys to Loewe—no small feat considering Jonathan Anderson just quadrupled sales and turned the brand from a heritage leather goods maker into a bona fide luxury powerhouse. The question that’s been buzzing in my mind: when a brand’s already firing on all cylinders, how do you stamp your own mark without stepping on those well-trodden toes? Well, these two fashion maestros gave us a sneak peek in Paris, blending their street-smart New York vibe with Loewe’s eccentric charm. From slung jeans with playful leather twists to 3D-printed dresses bursting with punchy reds and yellows, their collection says, “We’re here—and we’re ready to shake things up without losing the magic.” It’s a bold debut packed with optimism and a subtle nod to the past, setting the stage for a bright, shiny future. How do you fix what’s not broken? That’s the conundrum Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, who since being named the co-creative directors of Loewe in March have faced. Under the previous designer, Jonathan Anderson, who just showed his first womenswear offering for Dior, sales quadrupled. The transformation from a heritage leather goods house to a fully realized luxury house was complete. The brand’s off-kilter codes were established. So how does one–or two in this case–go about making it their own?

We got the first hint yesterday in Paris, where McCullough and Hernandez showed their very first collection since decamping to the French capital six months ago from New York. In their previous tenure, they dealt in the dressing of the New York woman, more specifically a downtown darling (think actress Chloë Sevigny or art director Jen Brill) who lives a cosmopolitan life and looks good doing it. They brought this kind of street smarts to their debut at Loewe. Sportswear classics underscored that the Americans were indeed in Paris: think jeans coolly slung at the hip (executed through innovative and playful leather manipulation), primary colored knit polos carefully draped on the bust, and bomber jackets shown with no top underneath, just a suggestive sliver of skin. Elsewhere, the designers subtly played with the idea of sexiness and sportiness. Molded 3D jackets enhanced the hips and skimmed the bust. Most looks were paired with a fabulous rubber court shoe, reminiscent of fancy water slip-ons lined with an assortment of multicolored ankle socks you can swap out underneath. 3D- printed towel dresses that could have felt staid were made new, by a hand-painted technique. The millefeuille of asymmetric dresses in pillarbox red and canary yellow felt like a doubling down on the punchy colors we’ve come to expect from the brand.

Maybe the biggest sign of an auspicious beginning was the resounding applause before even the last model had returned from the runway. Many of the audience, longtime friends and supporters, rose to their feet as McCullough and Hernandez (in coordinating red and blue Ralph Lauren polos, the de facto symbol of Americana dressing) took in their standing ovation. They looked content, and their collection seemed like a reflection of the optimism that they will continue to lean into at Loewe. It was a confident start that paid homage enough to Loewe’s past but proposed the designers’ own ideas, their own pasts, and, more importantly, their very bright futures.
