There are a few times a year that we can be fairly certain we’ll see Princess Kate, and the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance has always been a particularly meaningful one. Held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the event was founded to honor the service and sacrifices of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces community, ahead of Remembrance Sunday itself. And tonight was no exception.

Hosted by Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, tonight’s lineup included personal testimonies and musical performances, with a particular focus on the military children impacted by war. Joined by fellow senior members of the royal family, including King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Princess of Wales stepped out for the evening with a surprising date: Prince George. Prince William remained in Brazil.

In align with the evening’s all black dress code, she pulled out a classic Alessandra Rich peplum dress, designed with a midi skirt, long sleeves, and white bib collar trimmed with lace. On her lapel, she pinned a HMS Glasgow Brooch and a handmade red poppy—the official symbol of remembrance—and styled the dress with black tights and pointed toe heels. George, beside her, looked adorable in a black suit and poppy of his own.

Last year, Kate made headlines by wearing her iconic sapphire engagement ring, which once belonged to Princess Diana, and this year, she pulled the piece out again.

But in another sweet nod to her family history, she paired the piece with pearl earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II, representing all generations of the royal family. Around her neck, she added a diamond cross pendant. Her hair was curled in bouncy waves, and she was all smiles as she walked inside with her son.
