As Miley Cyrus celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana, the singer is stepping into a new chapter of her personal life that’s just as defining. In December, it was confirmed that the singer is engaged to musician Maxx Morando—a relationship she has largely kept out of the spotlight following her highly publicized marriage to Liam Hemsworth.

Cyrus was first linked to Morando in November 2021, when the two sparked romance rumors with a joint appearance at the Gucci Love Parade fashion show. (Cyrus later shared a photo of herself with Morando from the event on Instagram.)

Rumors escalated the following month, when Cyrus danced and held hands with Morando in Miami during her New Year’s Eve Party special for NBC. By April 2022, they confirmed their romance during an outing in West Hollywood, where they went all out with the PDA.

Fast forward to the 2024 Grammys and Morando supported Cyrus at the show—where she won her first Grammy, for “Flowers”—and gave her a passionate kiss.

Since then, the two have kept their relationship (and engagement!) low-key aside from a few red carpet appearances together. But while Morando has mostly kept his personal life out of the public spotlight, he, like Cyrus, has had a long career in music.

Ahead, everything we know about Cyrus’s fiancé, Maxx Morando.

He is a versatile musician.

While best known as the drummer for Liily (and for the Regrettes, from 2015 to 2018), Morando also plays guitar. Additionally, he has also collaborated with Cyrus on several of her albums. Morando produced two songs, “Handstand” and “Violet Chemistry,” from the singer’s Endless Summer Vacation LP.

He later collaborated with Cyrus on her 2025 album, Something Beautiful, contributing as both a producer and songwriter on several tracks. Morando also played drums on the record and made a cameo in the “End of the World” music video.

He’s six years younger than Miley.

The drummer, born in 1998, is six years Cyrus’s junior. (His birthday also happens to fall exactly a week ahead of the singer’s, on November 16.)

Cyrus opened up about their slight age gap in a 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar: “He grew up with a laptop. I had a desktop computer that I shared with my brothers and sisters. … Honestly, he’s raised our dog off Reddit. I’m like, Are you sure we’re supposed to be doing this? And he’s like, On Reddit it says blah, blah, blah.”

He designed an outfit for Miley.

Along with his musical endeavors, the drummer has dabbled in fashion design too, with Cyrus as his muse.

Cyrus revealed in September 2021 that Morando contributed cartoon designs to a custom vegan leather set by designer Shane Kastl, which Cyrus wore for a performance that month.

“This look is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between two of my favorite emerging artists, Maxx Morando and Shane Kastl,” Cyrus said of the special look in an interview. “Their collaboration is the perfect example of sustainability becoming the next fashion phase, and it proves that anything can be reinvented, which resonates with me deeply.”

Miley says she and Maxx are “very similar.”

In an interview for Bazaar’s December 2024 cover story, Cyrus opened up about her relationship with Morando, saying, “He’s very similar to me. We just don’t take life too seriously.”

She also shared how working with Morando on musical projects helped them bond: “I worked with my dad forever. That’s how me and my ex-husband met each other. I’ve always worked with the people that I love,” Cyrus says. “And Maxx just inspires me so much.”

Maxx and Miley got engaged in 2025.

The couple’s engagement was confirmed in December 2025, after Cyrus sparked rumors by wearing a diamond sparkler on her left-hand ring finger at the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash in LA.

Neither Cyrus nor Morando has shared any wedding plans at this time, but a source told People that the couple wants to keep their wedding small and intimate rather than having a big, traditional ceremony.

“Maxx is extremely private, and that’s just not who he is,” the insider said. “When they do get married, it will be something smaller and meaningful to them. Not a big Hollywood production.”

He’s very “low-key” and private.

Morando keeps an extremely private, low profile in both his personal and professional life. While the musician does have an Instagram, he rarely posts, aside from sharing new music that he works on with both his band and Cyrus.

In March 2023, a source told People that Morando is a “cool guy” who is drama-free, a trait that Cyrus finds extremely attractive.

“He has no interest in being a huge celebrity; he’s very low-key. Miley loves these qualities,” the source said. “Miley can be herself. They are supportive of each other’s careers. Miley is enjoying life and things are great.”
