Yesterday, Chanel and Tribeca Co-Founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal hosted a luncheon in New York City to celebrate the 10th annual Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program. Actors, musicians, directors, writers, producers, casting directors and costume designers gathered at Locanda Verde to toast the filmmaking community and, more specifically, the ten emerging filmmakers selected for this year’s mentorship program.

The guest list, numbering over one hundred, read like a who’s who in entertainment. The organizers cultivated a rare, intimate space where Sarah Paulson could brush shoulders with Lucy Liu and Tessa Thompson could swap stories with Meghann Fahy. Additional notable guests included Kaitlyn Dever, Edie Falco, Katie Couric, Lily Allen, Mariska Hargitay, Cazzie David, and so many more. And of course, Chanel put their fabulous touch on the whole thing.

To welcome the room full of powerful women outfitted in tweed jackets and classic flap bags, Rosenthal opened, “10 years ago, when Paula Weinstein and I launched Through Her Lens with Chanel, we thought we were starting a program. But what we were really starting was a movement.”

Celebrating a milestone year having supported over 100 filmmakers and 50 films, the signature artist development initiative has spent a decade cultivating a creative community that has empowered women and non-binary filmmakers. The luncheon marks the start of the annual three-day workshop presented by Tribeca and Chanel in which participants take part in mentor-led sessions before delivering a live pitch to an expert jury. One team is awarded full financing to produce their short film with support from Tribeca Studios, while four additional teams receive smaller grants. As Rosenthal said, “the barrier has never been about talent—it’s access.”

She closed her remarks, concluding, “So with that, let’s keep doing what we do best: telling stories, rattling cages, breaking molds, and refusing to be ignored. Because through her lens, the world looks sharper, braver, more honest—and let’s be real—it looks a lot better dressed.”
