When you fire up a show titled Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, you’re pretty much guaranteed a good time. Netflix’s newest and buzziest binge series is here, and it’s a dark horror-mystery about a young couple on the eve of their wedding. But as the title suggests, it’s not exactly smooth-sailing to the moment they say, “I Do.”
The series comes from showrunner Haley Z. Boston and executive producers the Duffer Brothers, whose work you might be familiar with. Camila Morrone stars as Rachel, who spends the days leading up to her wedding with Nicky (Adam DiMarco) feeling a deep sense of dread that—well, something bad will happen. Honestly, who amongst us didn’t feel anxiety before our weddings? Am I right? (I’m single.)
Full of jump scares, surrealist visuals, and just a whole bunch of general weirdness, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is creeping up our list of the year’s best TV. It isn’t the only media to deal with wedding cold feet—The Drama is now playing in theaters—but it’s undoubtedly unique. It may also be the breakout moment for Morrone, who last appeared in The Night Manager on Prime Video and will soon star in The Age of Innocence for Netflix.
With so much buzz around the series, everyone wants to know if a second season is on the way. Here’s what we know about a potential season 2 for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
Is Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen Renewed for Season 2?
As of this moment, no. Netflix has not renewed Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen for a second season. But this doesn’t mean the streamer won’t renew it—it simply hasn’t happened yet.
However, Haley Z. Boston has already made mention of season 2, though if fans are attached to Morrone’s Rachel, they might want to sit down. In an interview with ScreenRant, Boston said that the show was envisioned as a limited series, but she remains open to exploring a different story, and a “different fear” in another season.
“It was conceived of as a limited series, so it is kind of a full story, but I think there’s a world where it’s a totally different, very bad thing. I’d have to find another existential fear to explore,” Boston said.
In a different interview with Deadline, Boston admitted that she thought about continuing the story and revisiting Rachel years down the road. “But I do view it as a complete story in and of itself, as well. So it could go on, and it could just be what it is,” she said.
If a season renewal was in store for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, it wouldn’t be the first time a “limited series” found extra life. (Hello, Shōgun.) But for now, fans have just eight menacing episodes—and for some, that’s enough to last forever. And ever.
