This story contains spoilers for The Madison episode 1.
Ever wonder how Taylor Sheridan wrangles stars like Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell for multiple seasons of TV? Well, he plans ahead. The prolific TV creator wrote and filmed both seasons of The Madison back to back, before audiences even saw the first trailer. And now that season 1 is coming to a swift end after just six episodes, the crew is likely ready to provide audiences with the second installment as early as next year.
According to Russell, the idea to film back-to-back seasons came from his prior commitments to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. He was originally rumored to be circling The Madison before the news broke several months later, and it was all because of their ingenious plan to make sure he was involved. “Michelle and Taylor were able to get together with the people at Paramount+ and say, ‘Well, let’s do two seasons instead of just one,” Russell told Entertainment Weekly. “We really do want him to play the guy. And we’ll get his first season out of the way first and then go into the second.” It worked like a charm.
Russell’s character appears throughout the series, but the majority of his scenes in person could be filmed without anyone else’s involvement. His character, Preston Clyburn, dies in the first episode of the series following a horrific plane crash. It’s the catalyzing event for the Clyburn family’s temporary move to Montana, where the accident occurred, and their ongoing journey with losing a family member, a father, and a husband. Even when season 1 ends, I imagine that Stacy (Pfeiffer) will still have a long road of recovery ahead of her.
But when will audiences actually see the second season? Paramount has yet to receive an official release date for The Madison season 2, even though it can’t be too far away. Stay tuned for an official word from the network once season 1 ends on Saturday, March 21.
Meanwhile, Paramount and Sheridan hope to keep audiences happy with the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch, as well as more episodes of Tulsa King, Marshals, and Lioness.
