It’s been almost twenty years since No Country for Old Men, but Javier Bardem hasn’t lost his mean streak. A new series remake of the classic thriller is coming soon to Apple TV starting on June 5. In the show’s first trailer, released on Tuesday, Bardem puts on his scary face to terrorize the daylights out of Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams, whose affluent suburban family falls at the mercy of Bardem’s vengeful Max Cady. This time, however, things seem even darker than in Martin Scorsese‘s 1991 cinematic thriller.

The original Cape Fear film starring Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck premiered in 1962, based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners. Scorsese cast Robert De Niro in the role for his remake in 1991, but Apple TV plans to star Bardem in a full series. Scorsese also joins as an executive producer on the show alongside Steven Spielberg. Fun fact: The latter director was meant to helm Scorsese’s version of Cape Fear. But due to the film’s violence, Spielberg handed the project over to Scorsese. Scorsese, in turn, gave Spielberg the reins on Schindler’s List.

The series version of Cape Fear more or less tells the same story as Scorsese’s movie. Much like the original film, Max Cady (Bardem), a convicted murderer released from prison, seeks revenge against the married lawyers who sent him to jail. According to Cady, the lawyers purposefully hid evidence that would have proved his innocence. Taking over Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange’s roles as the Bowdens are Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams, who co-star with Bardem in the 10-episode limited series.

You can watch the trailer below.

While Cape Fear looks a lot like the 1991 movie, down to the similar Florida settings, the series hints at a different—and much scarier—Max Cady. He’s less of a misguided zealot and more of an acolyte to a demonic entity, if not the Devil himself. In some blink-and-you-miss-it moments, Max appears shirtless with freaky tattoos of floating eyeballs and a grim reaper figure holding a large scythe. The tattoos clearly possess a more sinister energy than the ones De Niro had in the movie, which by comparison were pretty typical prison tattoos with a lot of Christian crosses and references to his ex-wife Loretta. Bardem’s tattoos look like the type you’d get during a satanic ritual. (Not that I would know anything about that myself.)

Even if this new Cape Fear doesn’t capture the same dark magic as Scorsese’s movie, it’s still a showcase of Javier Bardem at his most monstrous. Add in Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams screaming their heads off and you can count me in.
