So, the question is—how does a megastar like Taylor weave her music magic into the cozy, candid vibe of a sports podcast? Only one way to find out… LEARN MORE
Swifties across the world lost their collective minds yesterday when Taylor Swift revealed that her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is coming. Perhaps even more exciting? That we’re going to hear all about it on an episode of her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights. The episode will drop at 7 p.m. ET tonight, and people (me, hi) have been frantically checking the New Heights Instagram page ever since the first clip dropped.
Well, New Heights just shared another clip from the podcast, and it features Travis’ brother and co-host Jason Kelce delivering one of his epic introductions. Honestly, if the actual podcast episode is anywhere as good as these clips, I might pass out.
Just to recap: This is Swift’s first podcast appearance ever and her first interview since she was named Time’s Person of the Year back in 2023. New Heights is also currently No.1 on Apple Podcasts. So, there’s a lot of hype around this.
How much hype? Tuesday’s clip of Swift announcing her next album broke the record for the most viewed Instagram video in 24 hours, clocking in at 134 million views.
Here’s everything you need to know in the lead-up to Swift’s podcast appearance, plus what the latest teaser revealed.
What does the new teaser clip reveal?
The clip is nothing short of amazing. It features Jason hyping Swift up, noting that she’s a singer, songwriter, producer, and director, and setting the record straight that she’s from Pennsylvania—not Nashville. (Jason played for the Philadelphia Eagles for 13 years, and Swift is technically from Birds country.) As he read the intro, which stated that Swift was from Nashville, Tennessee, Jason went off script to clarify, “That’s b—s—. [She’s] from READING, Pennsylvania,” as Swift cracked up.
Jason then started to list off Swift’s many, many accomplishments, like being the most-awarded artist in the history of the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and iHeart Radio Music Awards, and a 14-time Grammy winner, as Travis jumped in with “God dayum!” and “sheesh!”
“I’m still going, hold up!” Jason jumped back in, adding that Swift set a record with 1.76 billion streams globally within the first week of the release of her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, something that seemingly surprised Swift. “Did it? Alright!” she said. Jason also pointed out that, for as long as Travis and Swift have been public with their relationship, Travis’ team, the Kansas City Chiefs, have won 19 games, two AFC titles, and a Super Bowl—talk about a good luck charm.
Once Jason finally wrapped things up, Swift gave credit where it was due, saying, “That intro! Jason!” She also added, “thank you for screaming for, like, 47 seconds for me,” she replied. “That was so nice. That was so sweet.”
Swift also acknowledged in the clip that there are some haters out there. “As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast and I think we all know that if there’s one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it’s more of me,” she joked, as Travis laughed.
The clip is long, and it subtly reveals a few things about Swift and Travis’ relationship. The two shared several knowing smiles during that introduction and they also bantered together a lot. Not only that, Swift seems to have a good relationship with Jason, who is famously close with his brother.
What else have we learned so far about Life of a Showgirl?
There’s not a ton out there yet about Swift’s new album, which has been dubbed TS12. But you can pre-order it now. According to Swift’s website, it will ship before October 13, but it’s not clear if that’s the official release date.
What we do know is that there’s a lot of orange glitter associated with this album—the record itself is orange and glittery, and Swift even changed her profile photo to a glittery orange lock on a mint green background.
Swift has shared in the past that she categorizes her songs as being written (metaphorically) with a “fountain pen,” “quill pen,” or “glitter gel pen,” depending on the sound. And, with all the glitter imagery so far, we can’t help but wonder: will this album feature the upbeat, fun, and sparkly lyrics and sound that are characteristic of glitter gel pen songs like “You Belong With Me” and “Bejeweled”? A Swiftie can only hope!
To watch Swift’s podcast episode, you can check it out on the New Heights YouTube channel starting at 7 p.m. ET tonight.
