The Untold Struggle of ‘Little House on the Prairie’s’ Carrie Ingalls – What Really Happened Behind the Scenes Will Shock You!
When you think of Little House on the Prairie, who pops into your mind first? Laura, Pa, Ma, or maybe Mary? But what about Carrie Ingalls—the quiet sister who somehow snagged a spot in our hearts despite sharing the screen (and credits!) with her sisters? This part was played by not one, but twin sisters Rachel Lindsay Greenbush and Sidney Greenbush—yes, the dynamic duo behind “Lindsay Sidney Greenbush,” which left a lot of viewers scratching their heads wondering if it was a single actress or a clever twin act. Starting the series at just four years old, these sisters grew up on set, their lives intertwined with the prairie saga, only to face a bittersweet farewell after Season 8. Ever wondered what it’s like to grow up in a hit series, then step off the prairie and into a whole new world? Let me take you on the journey of these twin stars—from their acting beginnings to their love of horses, and beyond into very different lives. Curious about what happened after the cameras stopped rolling? LEARN MORE.
When you think of Little House on the Prairie, you likely remember Laura, Mary, Pa and Ma—along with Laura’s younger sisters, Carrie and Grace. While Carrie Ingalls had a slightly smaller role than the rest of the family, she remained an essential part of both the series and Laura Ingalls Wilder’s real-life story.
The character was portrayed by twin sisters Rachel Lindsay Greenbush and Sidney Greenbush, who were just four years old when filming for the first season began. Because they shared the role of Carrie, the two were credited onscreen as “Lindsay Sidney Greenbush,” leading many viewers to assume the character was played by a single actress.
“When we started doing Little House on the Prairie, the two names got smushed together,” Rachel (Lindsay) explained on the Little House Fifty for 50 Podcast. “So instead of Lindsay and Sidney, it became Lindsay Sidney. I still have people thinking it was just one person.”
Despite being key members of the cast, starring in 182 episodes of the series, their time on the series ended after Season 8, along with several other actors.

“I don’t think I realized how much it affected me until I was much older and went on the journey of reconciliation and self-discovery,” Rachel Greenbush shared of leaving the series at a young age. “Everybody separated and I didn’t see anybody. And that was really hard for me personally because I didn’t realize how connected I had been to everybody until years later.”
While the twins were on a wildly successful series, leaving the show changed things for both of them.
“It’s almost a tragic loss, but I wouldn’t let myself acknowledge it because I was, like, ‘But this is the profession. This is what we do,’” she said. “You make these really deep intense bonds working with each other every single day. When it’s over, you’re just supposed to be, like, ‘Okay, that was nice. Bye.’ And it’s really hard that way.”
Rachel and Sidney left acting

The twin sisters were just toddlers when their acting careers began, first appearing in the 1973 film Sunshine before moving directly into Little House immediately. By the time their run on the series ended, they were only about 12 years old.
After leaving the show in 1982, each had one final acting credit the following year—Rachel in an episode of Matt Houston and Sidney in the film Hambone and Hillie. While attending Santa Monica High School, Sidney also appeared in a production of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby.
But soon after, the twins left the acting world behind to pursue other interests. Both Rachel and Sidney fell in love with horses and began to follow their passion of riding.
Rachel ended up taking up an entirely different career path, earning her degree in accounting at California State Lutheran University. Sidney continued to follow her passion for riding and later joined the Pierce College Rodeo Team in Woodland Hills, California. She eventually began a career in the Women’s Pro Rodeo.
Sidney has since continued to be an active member of the equestrian community and has started her own line of designer jewelry.
Rachel and Sidney’s personal lives

Both twins have married since their time on the series. Sidney has been married twice, first to Charles Caraccilo and then to William “Rocky” Foster, while Rachel tied the knot with Daniel Sanchez in 2014. Rachel shared the sweet story of how she and her husband met and they have her time on Little House to thank for it.
“My husband and I first met on the set [of Little House] when I was 7 and he was 14,” Rachel shared. She explained that Daniel lived right near the set, so he would hang out with the cast members closer to his age. But one day, Rachel and Daniel met again. “We re-met exactly 30 years later in 2007.”
Rachel explained that not only did Little House bring them together but it also had a hand in their wedding. Rachel and Daniel exchanged vows in 2014 underneath the same oak tree where they first met decades prior.
Rachel Greenbush has one child named Katlynn Danae, born in 1995, and is also a grandmother. She even shared that her grandchildren enjoy watching Little House with her.
