Unlock Jacksonville’s Best-Kept Hiking Secrets: Trails That Challenge Every Fitness Level and Transform Your Mindset

On the preserve itself, you have two trail options:

  • White Loop (Shorter) – Shaded and serene, the White Loop takes slightly less time, making it a more beginner-friendly option (and, often, a bit more crowded). You’ll also find plenty of shade along the way, as well as benches to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
    • Distance – 6.3km
    • Elevation – Mostly flat
    • Estimated time to complete – 1 hour and 9 minutes
  • Yellow and White Loop (Longer) – Think of this option as the uncut version of the White Loop. This walk takes a little under 30 minutes more, but feel free to go at your own pace—there are plenty of wildflowers, birds, and wildlife to enjoy. After rain, this trail can get slightly muddy in places, but it’s a well-maintained option if you’re looking for a gorgeous 90-minute hike.
    • Distance – 9km
    • Elevation – Mostly flat
    • Estimated time to complete – 1 hour and 38 minutes

Truth be told, Jacksonville—and most of Florida—isn’t exactly famous for mountainous terrain. It’s not always easy to find difficult trails in the area, but the Baldwin Rail Trail’s length makes it a more challenging hike than others.
