Although jeans are a wardrobe staple, with ever-changing trend cycles, it can be challenging to keep up with the latest denim silhouettes that feel most fresh. If you’re wondering where to start, we’ve tapped four denim experts to help curate a master list of which ones you should invest in, along with all the ways to style them. Sleek, elongated bootcut silhouettes are taking center stage this fall, with one special, archival style leading the way. “We’re excited to reintroduce Gap’s iconic Long and Lean Jean, an icon of the early aughts, back into our denim assortment this fall,” Jane Pattinson, global head of design at Gap, tells Bazaar. “The updated silhouette remains true to its archival fit, fitted in the waist and slim through the hip and thigh with a clean bootcut leg, but we’ve optimized it for comfort with a new contour waistband, a slightly longer inseam, and updated stretch denim.” Whether you dare to go low-rise or prefer something high-waisted, there are plenty of options available.

You can also lean into the low-rise movement here for a little modernity, as Linda Cui Zhang, associate fashion director at Nordstrom, recommends. “A classic fit that feels refreshed in lower mid-rise styles, it’s perfect for tucking in tops and adding an accent belt,” she explains. Choose from Frame’s latest silhouette, the Mellow, or Agolde’s slim-fit in deep indigo blue.

Across the fall/winter 2025 runways from Khaite to Louis Vuitton, the notion of dark denim rang clear. “The denim at Khaite’s runway show introduced a new sense of sexy, dressed-up denim—featuring dark washes in roomy, trouser-like silhouettes,” Cui Zhang says. “Lemaire’s show embraced expressive minimalism and clean lines, showcasing dark denim on the runway. “The barrel leg also continues to lead fall denim trends, with the Wes, our best-selling, classic barrel fit, remaining a wardrobe staple,” says Na. Focus on fresh interpretations of this modern classic by looking for styles that feature gentle curves with subtle volume, rather than the full-on horseshoe shapes. “These sculptural fits bring a fresh, directional feel to denim while still being versatile enough for everyday styling,” explains Sarah Ahmed, CEO and co-founder of DL1961. “For fall 2025, we’re seeing a strong return to tailored wide-leg silhouettes with clean, elongating lines that offer both ease and refinement,” says Ahmed. “They strike the perfect balance between comfort and polish, making them an easy choice for everything from office dressing to weekend wear.” It is encouraged to rely on simple shapes that can play double duty in your wardrobe. “After several years of looser silhouettes dominating the market, there’s a renewed appetite for slimmer fits like the cigarette leg,” says Ahmed. “Sleek and streamlined, they’re a polished alternative that pairs seamlessly with fall staples, like knee-high boots, structured outerwear, and oversized knits.” Keep things classic with your washes, relying on timeless indigos, versatile mid-blues, and clean, unfussy finishes that never go out of style. This way, they certainly won’t feel like the skinny jeans of the past.
