Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris is facing his biggest challenges yet, and from the looks of it, this oil-industry fixer may finally be reaching his breaking point.

What happened in ‘Landman’ season 1?

In the debut season, fans were introduced to landman Tommy Norris, played expertly by Billy Bob Thornton. Tommy works for a West Texas oil company as a crisis manager and fixer, securing land for the company’s operations and putting out fires where they might show up in this cutthroat industry. The day-to-day of Tommy’s life gets increasingly complicated thanks to personal matters involving his ex-wife and children, and a fatal accident on one of his sites kicks off the series. Throughout season 1, we watch as Tommy grapples with the intensity and danger of his job, as well as his son’s involvement in the industry. Another major player is Monty, his boss, portrayed by Jon Hamm, who also wasn’t exempt from the stresses of the job—at the end of the season, he suffers a heart attack and dies. In the newly released trailer for Landman, we get a glimpse at the gripping drama that’s sure to come at every turn in season 2, with Thornton’s Tommy stating, “You think you understand how this business works, but you don’t. You have to know the rules of the game to bend them, and you really have to know them to break them.” Fans also get a glimpse of Sam Elliott’s character in the show, with the famed western actor playing the part of Tommy’s father.

The new trailer also gave viewers a peek at the potential conflicts ahead involving Monty’s wife, Cami, played by Demi Moore, who now owns the company after her husband’s death. “She owns it, but I run the company,” Tommy clarifies. However, this new snippet from the upcoming season reveals that Monty had more on his plate than anyone knew, with lawyers referencing allegations of wire fraud, insurance fraud and embezzlement.
