Unlock the Secret to the Smoothest Shave in 2025: These 8 Electric Razors Will Change Your Grooming Game Forever

Ever wondered why some electric shavers feel like a joyride while others are more like a struggle in the dark? Having toyed with grooming gadgets for years, I can tell you—finding that perfect balance between power and precision isn’t just science; it’s an art. Braun’s electric razors have been staples around here since Men’s Health first kicked off their grooming vertical in 2018, and trust me, I’ve seen plenty of contenders try to steal the crown. The Braun Series 9 Pro set the bar high, but the new Series 9 Pro Plus? Man, it’s like they supercharged the whole experience. From surgical-grade blades that slice with buttery sharpness, to AI that adjusts power on the fly—this isn’t your dad’s electric razor anymore. It handles stubble like a pro, hugging your face’s every curve with a whisper-light touch that somehow feels like both a feather and a precision scalpel. If you’re serious about shaving, you’ll want to know what makes this beast tick—and why it still holds strong after nearly a year in the trenches with me. Ready to ditch those razor bumps for good?

Braun electric razors have been a favorite of Men’s Health since we first launched our grooming vertical in 2018. For years, we maintained that the Braun Series 9 Pro was in a class of its own when it came to electric shavers. Then, the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus was released, which took these tools to an entirely new level.

At first glance, the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus looks almost identical to the original Series 9—and that’s not a bad thing. It keeps the same ergonomic design, which strikes a near-perfect balance in the hand: lightweight enough to maneuver easily, yet hefty enough to feel secure while shaving. Like its predecessor, the Pro Plus features five cutting elements that trim hairs down to an ultra-smooth 0.05 mm, giving you that just-shaved feel with impressive precision that’s as close as you’ll get without using an old-school barbershop blade.

Where it really starts to separate itself from the previous model, and any other electric razor for that matter, is the blades. The OG version’s blades were titanium, but the Pro Plus blades are made from surgical-grade stainless steel that stay sharper, allowing for a more effective shave that lasts longer. The Braun Series 9 Pro Plus, like the original version, features an ultra-thin ProLift blade (which looks like a gold bar on the razor head itself) that helps to lift hair away from your skin for a thorough cut.

What Else to Consider: Despite all that praise, the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus doesn’t lead the pack in terms of raw motor speed. It clocks in at 40,000 cutting actions per minute, which is solid but far from the top. But similar to Draymond Green’s career stats, the numbers don’t tell the whole story—this delivers the most powerful shave on the market. Sure, the Philips Norelco Shaver 9800 boasts a much faster motor (up to 150,000 cuts per minute), but speed isn’t everything.

What sets the Series 9 Pro Plus apart is Braun’s Sonic Technology, which adds 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute on top of the motor’s output. These vibrations help lift and capture more hair with each pass, making every stroke more effective and efficient. The razor also features a pop-up trimmer and a flexing head, which performed especially well compared to the Panasonic Arc5.

Its pivoting head perfectly hugs facial contours with more precision, likely due to its slightly smaller, more agile design. It also includes the AI-driven ProSensoAdapt, which senses beard density 300 times per second, according to the brand. This automatically adjusts power in real time for a smoother, more personalized shave.

Why We Chose It: Shaving with the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus rarely takes more than five minutes, even less when my stubble is light, but its standout feature is the incredibly close shave it delivers. The innovative focus is on lifting hairs more effectively from the skin to ensure a smoother finish. Another feature I didn’t know I needed from an electric razor is the ProComfort pre-shave head, which gently lifts and prepares hairs for a closer, more comfortable shave. It does this by using fine, vibrating blades to raise and align hairs before the main shaver cuts them.

These upgrades make a real difference. It’s by far the closest shave I get from an electric razor, especially when I use the ProComfort head beforehand to prep my skin. No other tool gets me this close to 5 o’clock before the shadow shows up.

Long Term Results: I’ve been using my Braun Series 9 Pro Plus for nearly a year, and it still shaves just as well today as it did right out of the box. Overall performance has not changed, though there has been a slight decline in cutting power when the blade dulled. But replacing the head was easy and brought the shaver back to business immediately.
