Unlock the Ultimate MCU Power Ranking: Which Marvel Movie Truly Packs a Knockout Punch?
Is The Marvels a perfect movie? No. Is it a fun movie? Hell yeah. Anchored by its titular protagonist trio (Larson’s returning Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan), The Marvels brings a sort of throwback-to-its-heydey energy that the 2023 MCU sorely needed. The movie’s villain, Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) is wildly underwritten, but the charisma that its trio brings—and the action sequences that their power-switching mechanism brings about—more than make up for the negatives. If there’s one person to single out, it’s Vellani as Kamala, who feels like the same kind of pitch-perfect, star-in-the-making discovery that Marvel made about a decade earlier with Tom Holland.
MCU understanding needed? The Marvels does a good job of explaining what’s going on as long as you’re generally familiar of the state of the post-Endgame MCU and have at least seen Captain Marvel. But watching Ms. Marvel and WandaVision will also add some context for Kamala and Monica.
