Unlock the Ultimate MCU Power Ranking: Which Marvel Movie Truly Packs a Knockout Punch?
Remember when the Hulk had a solo movie? Set in the MCU? Well, it happened! A few months after Tony Stark (and Nick Fury) blasted the Marvel Cinematic Universe wide open with the first Iron Man, fans got their first in-universe glimpse at Bruce Banner transforming into his strong, unpredictable, and green alter-ego, The Hulk. Those who haven’t revisited the movie in a while may be surprised to remember, however, that Banner wasn’t always played by our pal Mark Ruffalo—he was played in this film by the great Edward Norton. However, internal disagreements led to Norton exiting before The Avengers, and the rest is history.
Anyway though. This movie. It’s not bad! Give it a watch when you get a chance—Norton is solid in the titular role, the late William Hurt is fun as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Tim Roth makes for a great villain as Emil Blonsky/The Abomination. And while it seemed like Tim Blake Nelson would never have a chance to make good on the cliffhanger that the movie leaves his character, Dr. Samuel Sterns, with, he finally returns inCaptain America: Brave New World (though that movie was unfortunately wholly underwhelming). For a while it seemed like Marvel wanted us to ignore 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, but with a few of these tie-ins (including Blonsky’s return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), it’s clear that they finally want us to pay attention to this one again.
MCU understanding needed? Nothing at all! Some cursory Banner/Hulk knowledge might help, and as long as you know, broadly, who Tony Stark is, you’ll be OK for the credits scene too.
