While it’s an Ant-Man movie in name—and the usual gang, including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfieffer, along with new Cassie Lang Kathryn Newton all come to play—this movie exists for one reason primarily, and that’s to introduce the new Thanos-level supervillain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors… for now). And mission accomplished! Kang’s presence looms largely over the whole movie, which is a little goofy and fun, searching for something of a Star Wars Cantina Bar vibe in a weird world.
That said, in the months that have passed since this movie’s release—with the potential that the MCU could move away from Kang altogether—this movie feels like more and more of a misfire, even apart from the uneven final product.
