Adjustability

Materials

Weight

Ankle weights are never going to carry as much load as other resistance training accessories like a weighted vest. After you’ve mastered bodyweight exercises, Diers suggests using ankle weights that are 1 to 1.5 pounds. From there, you can ramp up to 2 or 3 pounds. “Working with body weight and gravity is enough resistance at first, and then once you feel confident in what the movement is, and what the format is, then you can add weight,” she says. (Many ankle weights on the market also allow you to add or remove weighted pieces to adjust the load.)
