France Ireland Chamber of Commerce has reported strong levels of confidence among its members, with a new survey showing that 92% of companies have experienced stable or improved performance over the past six months.

The results come from the chamber’s 2026 Business Sentiment Survey, which also found that more than 90% of respondents expect conditions to improve or remain positive over the next year.

Businesses pointed to continued demand and commercial momentum across sectors such as green energy, financial services, supply chain and transport.

Despite the positive outlook, the survey highlighted a number of growing challenges.

Half of the companies surveyed said geopolitical and regulatory pressures are now a significant concern for Franco-Irish businesses, with many pointing to the cumulative impact of global tariffs, regional conflicts and an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

Domestic constraints also continue to weigh on companies operating in Ireland.

Labour and skills shortages were identified as the biggest structural challenge by 62% of respondents, followed by housing and accommodation costs (50%) and regulatory burdens (38%), underlining ongoing concerns around competitiveness and capacity for growth.

Chris Smyth, President of the France Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Group CEO of Perennial Freight, said the findings show a resilient but increasingly pressured business community.

“Our members see clear opportunity in the Franco-Irish trade and investment relationship over the next 12 months, particularly in sectors such as green energy and transport,” he said, adding that the relationship between the two countries is increasingly viewed as stable in a volatile global environment.

The survey comes as economic ties between Ireland and France continue to deepen.

France is now Ireland’s largest trading partner within the European Union, with bilateral trade levels 30% higher than they were before both Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Trade in goods between the two countries reached €14.2bn, driven largely by chemicals, transport equipment and agri-food products.

According to the chamber, more than 340 French companies now operate subsidiaries in Ireland, supporting more than 45,000 direct jobs.

The publication of the 2026 survey also reflects the growth of the chamber’s own network, which now represents more than 170 member organisations across both countries, highlighting the strength of the commercial relationship and expectations of further expansion in the year ahead.
